Beyond Good & Evil HD heavily discounted on Xbox Live today
43
Third-person photo shooter Beyond Good & Evil HD is the star discount in today's (hnnggghhh) "Cyber Monday" sale on Xbox Live. It's down from 800 MSP ($10) to 240 MSP -- that's $3 for one of last generation's most charming and thoughtful adventures. If you find the lack of inverted camera bothersome, perhaps you can put some of today's savings toward brain inversion surgery. It'll be worth it!
Xbox Live is also discounting three other games for today only: An assembly of three klassic fighters in Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection (400 MSP / $5), ol' sale standby Risk Factions (200 MSP / $2.50), and a game that's awesome in alliteration only, Dungeons and Dragons: Daggerdale (600 MSP / $7.50).

"lack of inverted camera"
I was about to buy this game, but I didn't know about that issue. Thanks for sharing that, Joystiq.
Sorry, but I just can't play without inverted controls.

It actually has the option to invert the camera, but it doesn't separate the X and Y axes. So if you invert the vertical axis, you can expect to make yourself dizzy trying to figure out the horizontal one.
Thank you, Joystiq, for mentioning it in the article. Not only might you save people a headache, but it sends a message to the developer that this really should be fixed. The game is wonderful, and more people should play it, but that's no excuse for bad programming. I played it years ago on the Cube, and I guess that was before my inverted preference was seared deep into my brain, because when I downloaded the demo, it was completely unplayable.

I'm here to cast my vote for an inverted Y axis and normal X axis, if Ubisoft is looking and not above a patch...

Did they ever fix the inverted sticks issue? Last time I played the arcade demo I went to change the settings and it never worked properly.

The next time I see the Beyond Good & Evil name it better have the number 2 at the end of it or I'll go on a stabbing spree

@Brando Calrissian Pinball is pointless without a real table.

Sure, if I had the cash, I'd have a room full of pinball tables and arcade machines... some day.

How do we get this inverted issue fixed? I downloaded it 2 months ago, played it for almost 2 hours, but I just CANT get passed the camera controls. It's totally going to be a great game, but I simply can't play it without the invert on. I'm heartbroken.
How did we get Splinter Cell HD fixed, constant complaining on the boards?

Well, it'll be 10 dollars, but you know 95% of the PC community's just going to bitch and pirate it anyways.

Better action/adventure games have come out between now and 2003, so don't put down Assassin's Creed or Uncharted in favour of this. And yeah, inverted controls are a hamper.

Despite the fact that Assassins Creed is utterly charmless while BG&E oozes it from every pore, BG&E will be remembered in the same breath as other truly great video games, I can barely remember any of the time I spent with Assassins Creed. Not played Uncharted so not judging.
But hey, it's all opinions.

Charm doesn't mean all lovely and nice. It just means the game has got something about it that draws you in, something that makes it special. Deadly Premonition or Silent Hill 1/2 are games with charm but they ain't about nice things. Assassins Creed was a completely by the numbers game with nothing special or memorable about it. This review by videogaiden sums it up completely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quxvcwCQyGQ

I assume "hnnggghhh" means "I can't believe people in 2011 use the prefix 'cyber' except to be ironic."

I refused to buy this when it came out because I knew it would eventually be on sale. I just had no idea the sale would be this good!

These XBL sales have been lackluster at best. Especially when you hear all those PC players jizzing over steam sales.
Posted: Nov 28th 2011 4:47PM (Unverified) said
@Gemini Ace People must be buying them at full price, otherwise I'm sure Microsoft would be lowering the prices.
The On-demand game prices are even worse. Batman : Arkham Asylum? (i.e. the FIRST one) for $29.99? Yeah.... I don't think so.

Please don't ever expect XBLA sales to match Steam sales. It's never going to happen. If you are looking for Steam-calibur sales, I'd recommend moving to PC gaming.

I got this game used years ago for the game cube for 2 bucks. It turned into one of my favorite sit down for an afternoon and go to town games. Not in HD i admit, but at least i have the damn thing. It's used price seems to be headed the way of the tales games in used pricing.

You aren't a gamer unless you can get used to the camera controls that are opposite of what you're used to in 5 seconds. Jesus Christ you people make me sad. Get the damn game already, it's awesome.

@Jgr9 I really have to agree. The controls are annoying, but if you can't overcome them you have other problems. Try playing one game at a time, that way you don't have to switch between camera controls all the time.
I mean, did no one play Metroid Prime? Everyone complained and still complains about the controls in that game, and yet it's still one of the most widely praised video games of all time. People took the time to learn the controls, and it worked perfectly. If you can't adapt to BG&E's camera, I don't know how you survived the PlayStation and Dreamcast 3D action adventure games. If you could train yourself to get used to the camera in Soul Reaver you could do anything.

I bought it and intend to play it, but I would GREATLY prefer for the controls to be adjusted to my liking. So I'd be tickled pink if this sale assists in bringing the issue to Ubisoft's attention, though I don't have a lot of faith in anything coming of that this late in the product's life.
