DW it took me going back and playing the first SMACKDown!VSRAW to realise that they had just renamed the F U as the Attitude Adjustment :/

Still think that Christian should have stuck with "The Unprettier" it was a better name :p

@Timjoy

The first few Smackdown games were good, but since Smackdown vs Raw started up they slowly drifted away from the fun part and concentrated on the wrestling part. Kinda like what happened to NFL Blitz.

I haven't purchased a new wrestling game since Day of Reckoning 2 on the Gamecube. This sounds decent... but I still think I may wait for a price drop. Too many other things to play right now, anyway.

"Surely, if WWE '12 decides to neglect what wrestling is about, it should carry on as a flawless fighting game. There are enough noticeable bugs, and even glitchy move-sets out there to say the game has issues"

This review is too kind to some seriously glaring faults this developer has yet to fix in over 3-4 years. I looked past it in playing WWE ALLSTARS because it was the first attempt at an arcade game style wrestling game in years. But I can't excuse WWE'12 because it's the same SvR with a bow-tie.

And damnit, now I want to make this aforementioned Zombie Cowboy, LoL.

@foxhound

WWE All Stars was a very fun game. Getting 3 (or more) of your friends and just playing was the most fun I'd had with a wrestling game since the Gamecube/N64 games.

@foxhound Thanks for the input. It's easy to be kind to the game when it's still a good game. If anything, I'm harsher on it compared to my peers.

I'll be sure to put Zombie Cowboy out there for people to download. I laughed every time the game decided to plop him in a match or the Royal Rumble.

We're men..
we're men in tight (Tight tights)
We go around the forest looking for fights
We rob from the rich and give to the poor (That's right!)
We may look like sissies
But watch what you say
Or else we'll put out your lights

There is NO WAY this game is as good as people are saying. It's getting solid reviews but every gameplay clip I see makes me cringe. I don't get it!

I guess I will have to reserve judgement until I play it for myself but... I don't think my opinion will be swayed.

Having played it, if you liked 11 then this is just as good, though personally i'd have liked them to stick with the 11 controls, they felt more natural (The grapples all being on the stick rather than across 3 buttons and a stick.)

"There is no intentional means of losing to give a low-card wrestler a "push."

Not true. All you have to do is let the AI whoop you... then the low-card guy will get the rub.

"A match in WWE '12 is like a guided tour between moves, where an icon flashes briefly to indicate the split-second window where (if you're lucky) you can stop that guided tour, and move into your own offensive move. You could argue that offsetting the inability to intentionally "lose" like wrestlers do is why these right-trigger reversals are damn near impossible to execute."

You're doing it wrong. Instead of trying to reverse all of the time, be the first one to strike so the AI doesn't get the grapple.

I'm too lazy to point out the rest of the inconsistencies. This review is sooooo off and I actually have the game.

I feel like the reviewer was only about two paragraphs off from chanting Colt Cabana's name in text format.

Figure the review should be more tailored towards non-smarky wrestling fans as the "internet crowd" behind wrestling have already formed valid opinions on WWE12 (and all the prior SvR iterations).

Just my thoughts though, don't expect many to agree with me.

The best word to describe WWE '12 is seamless. I don't think it's possible to overstate just how wonderful the "Predator" technology is. The way you string moves together in a set is a thing of beauty. I'm playing as Sheamus, I have Cody Rhodes in a grapple I go for a punch he tries to counter it, I recounter it and give him a stiff uppercut, while still in the hold I grab the dazed Dashing One and suplex him onto his belly. Once there and with no awkward repositioning I immediately initiate a Steiner Recliner. He's not weakened enough and it looks like he's going to bust out so I break the hold to prevent him from countering. This all happens in one super smooth sequence and with dynamic camera angles that absolutely mimic the show. The limb targeting is wonderful as well. I know that other WWE games have had this but I'm not sure it's ever worked as well as it does here. When Alberto Del Rio goes against Big Show, there's a sense that he needs to focus on his leg or arm to wear the big man down for a submission, or a top rope move. There's tension and drama in the matches that even the N64 paragons lacked. I panicked when, fighting as a CAW, Del Rio locked me in a submission hold and I was just barely able to make it the ropes. He tried to get me in a sequence of moves after that so, being a heel, I bailed to the outside for a breather and I realized it was the first time in a wrestling game where that move actually feels, well... right. Momentum is so much a part of WWE 12 that you constantly feel like you're in a tug of war to get the momentum on your side.. .and it's thrilling.

That being said... the running needs a lot of work. I echo the reviewer's sentiment that hit detection in those situations is absolutely a problem. Also the AI is incredibly spotty. Reversals are a bitch and kicking out is actually a real challenge sometimes (though for me personally a welcome one.)

Whatever its flaws, and there are many documented here and elsewhere, the game is the closest they've ever come to capturing the magic of a great wrestling match.
