I plan on going Merc Bounty Hunter when the game releases but I didn't try it out during this past beta weekend cause I didn't wanna spoil the story. Would you say Merc BH is a good PvP option?

@Traptz They really outdid my Jedi Consular in the beta this weekend. Better damage, more health and you could run and shoot.

After participating in the beta, I just don't find this game interesting. That is not say that it won't be successful or that there won't be people who enjoy it, but that I personally found it to be extremely shallow, repetitive, monotonous, and childish. And I find it exceedingly difficult to call this game an MMO, wherein that the vast majority of the gameplay is no different than a single player game (there just happens to be other players running around).

Needless to say, I won't be buying this game, and I found very little if anything that I could say I enjoyed about it. The dialogue is a distraction from the gameplay, and the story is flat in a lot of places with the classes that I played.

@Royalkin

Just so you know this beta was nothing more than a stress test.

I played on a PVP server and didn't see a single enemy from level 1-30.

This will be different come release day because of the way they're deploying guilds on servers. Just sayin'.

I found this MMO to be a breath of fresh air. You wanna talk about mundane repetitiveness then go see WoW and Rift.

@Royalkin I laughed at "childish". It's like you're talking about Lego Universe or something.

@Royalkin Well, I actually agree with you to some extent. The game does feel like a single player game, but I like that. I hid the chat window and then I was suddenly playing Star Wars: KOTOR, but with better fighting and questing. I don't mind at all the social part, since I won't be interested on it until end game.

That being said, this game is an MMO and the social part is well implemented. The social points mechanism is interesting and worth exploring. SWTOR is interesting and another option for the MMORPG audience.

I found Sith Inquisitor to be more enjoyable.
But then again, all the stories were fun (trooper is the best class though imo)

Can't wait for this game.

Oh wait, It's not technically being released in Australia :/

After playing the beta lat weekend, it was exactly what it looked like in the gameplay videos: WoW with lightsabers. You could literally replace all the character skins with Orcs and Elves and have no idea you were playing a different game.

Fanboys and critics alike will no doubt gush over the game's unoriginal and uninspired gameplay mechanics and paper thin storyline that fosters no connection whatsoever to your character (Just why did Lord Abaron tell some fresh off the shuttle recruit his top secret plans to cleanse the Sith Academy of non purebloods? People have been trying to get this Holocron for hundreds of years, and all I had to do was blast it with force lightning to open it up?).

I'm tired of hearing the following excuse: "What do you expect, it's an MMO?" Just because it's an MMO does not mean it has to follow the MMO formula to the letter. I had high hopes that Bioware would actually be able to break the mold and so something to advance the genre beyond the stagnant bore-fest that it is now. They apparently don't have enough creative talent to come up with something more original than generic "slaughter 10 wildlife animals" quests. How about some real time action-based combat ala DCUO? How about quests that are actually interesting?

TOR will no doubt be a huge success, but I personally was greatly disappointed at the squandered opportunity to really reshape the MMO landscape.

@dogmaticatheist

You problem is one a lot of people are facing. BioWare never claimed they were re-inventing the MMO formula or that they wanted to break the mold.

The hype surrounding the game and its community drove many to expect more than they were promised. I would understand your frustration if BioWare had made the claim that they were breaking the mold here but the fault lies with those who let their expectations get too high. This game is exactly as advertised, and if you had higher expectations then you have no one to blame but yourself.

What some people don't understand is that this game has to be accessible. Not only to seasoned MMO fans (They can sit down with the game and not have to become acquainted with an alien interface or combat mechanics, just sit and enjoy), but also to the fans of the original KotOR games who may have never played an MMO before. Following the current tried and true EQ/WoW formula ensures that a learning curve won't turn players away from the game (See EVE Online)

Having said that, yes, it would have been nice to see a different take on the MMO formula. But let's be honest, WoW is popular for a reason, because the game is accessible, easy, rewards you with even minimal play time, and it's fun.

In the end, this just might not be the MMO for you, but I do hope you give the game a chance for a little while longer. It gets a lot better once you go to the core planets and the game opens up to you.

@(Unverified) Well actually, Bioware did claim to be breaking the mold, all they were talking about is how different they were from other MMO's because they had story etc etc. So yeah, think, research, then type.

In all honesty, I agree to an extent. Obviously, it's still in fledgling state but it lacked a "must buy" press that I was hoping for. I probably will end up playing it, because it was fun, but not in an "I'm missing out on something" way.
Wow may be simplistic, but I already own it.

@dogmaticatheist "WoW with lightsabers. You could literally replace all the character skins with Orcs and Elves and have no idea you were playing a different game."

That's just not true unless you removed companions, and had the whole conversation system replaced with text boxes, but then you'd be removing the game's key features and greatest strengths in order for you to be able to claim you "have no idea" you weren't playing WoW, and I don't see that as either valid or fair.

A lot of people jump on MMOs for having boring quest objectives, and that the quest designers are creatively bankrupt. Normally I don't think the "let's see YOU do better" comeback is even remotely valid or helpful, but in this case I think it could be a useful exercise; I want to see you write a small quest chain for TOR that doesn't have you killing X number of Y, fetching items from enemies or the environment, using things in the environment, surviving waves of enemies for a time, getting to a certain location, getting to and/or talking to someone, or anything TOR already has you doing in a quest, as any quest objective. I daresay that every game in existence has you do these things because that's how things work. You want to be blown away by MMOs and do things you've never imagined before; things outside the realm of mortal men, but why do you hold MMOs in particular to that standard? Because quests in MMOs used to have bad pacing. Each quest overstayed its welcome by a wide margin and so players tried to tear them down, and insult them and the quest designers for not keeping it interesting. People then stripped the game of its world and role-play and reduced the quest down to its basics without any kind of context in order to make it seem as dumb and as possible; "I just have to kill X of Y". People need to stop doing that and accept that a quest to kill X of Y isn't a bad thing! Explicitly or not, just about every single game in the world has you do that, and makes it FUN! And with TOR in particular, no MMO has been able to give you as much role-play and context for the things it has you doing.

I can't wait for this game. I can't wait for this class. Let everybody else be a bounty hunter. For me, there is only the Way of the Jedi.

I'm with you on this one.

No healing or melee for me though. I'm going straight-up Telekinesis Sage and will use The Force as my weapon. The talent tree looks like its gameplay will be identical to my old Ele Shaman, so I imagine I'll have a great time.
