Oh man a new game for the WiI! I might actually buy it, turn my Wii on, and -

...

Nevermind.

Fear not Xenoblade might probably possibly come to your rescue, maybe...

Don't feed the troll, just take the Wii Remote jacket off, undo the wrist strap, and flail in his general direction.

This just in: Having one good game a year justifies a console's existence.

More at 11.

I never said that was the only good game on the Wii this year, that's just the best example as of late. We've had Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Lost in Shadow, de Blob 2, Tales of Graces (though not in America), bit.trip Complete, Skylanders, and Skyward Sword. I'm probably missing a few more, but those are all good examples. Plus we're getting Xenoblade next year, along with who knows what else.

Can you really criticize something that essentially aims to be Monopoly on television as being glacial, though? I've literally never finished a game of Monopoly in my life. It always ends when everyone realizes 3 Guns & Roses and Bob Dylan albums have been released during their game (and someone's actually dead).

Can you criticize a game designed to be a turd?

With that opening referencing the player to turn game play/message speed to its fasted, halve the profit win margin and so forth; my initial reaction was that this was going to be a gaming session similar to DOKAPON KINGDOM.

But at least DOKAPON blatantly says on the back cover to screw over your friends.

Yup, I would imagine Dokapon Kingdom is probably a lot more fun in the long run. I just think the excruciatingly slow pace is part of the package unless you're indeed expecting Mario Party. Slow-paced games like these certainly scratch an itch for someone or else Monopoly or Dungeons and Dragons wouldn't be as absurdly successful as they are.

(Again, not vouching for the quality as I've not played it; only the pace).

I kinda like these types of games every once-in-awhile, but surprised there is a whole genre in Japan.

I could see me making a purchase here and there, but probably on the order of 1-2 a year. These are better with a group of friends (and alcohol doesn't hurt).

Clearly you've never poured alcohol into an open wound.

If you're doing it right you'll have alcohol pouring out of a wound when it opens... Or at least it will be more alcohol than anything else.

.....considering how much I stumped for this game to come out in NA, I'm more than a little disappointed. However, Nintendo is not exactly one to let a good idea languish-- Rhythm Heaven didn't exactly sell all that well the first time around, but we're still getting the Wii sequel-- and I'm sure than if a second version were released which corrects the flaws in this package, it might be worth it.

Also: Mario Party games can run a little long. I know one recent trip with some friends took on the order of two hours. Amazingly, they were still my friends afterwards, even though I had so many coins stolen during that game....

This is why I never buy board game style games on consoles. I've learned by buying games like Monopoly on systems too many times that it's never nearly as quick as it is in real life. It's novel, and the presentation makes it seem definitely prettier to look at than the board game version, but at the end of the day it's not suited for the computer/console.

I think the reason why Mario Party is one of the only board game style games to work is because of the actual gameplay that goes on with each mini game.

I'm a huge Mario & Dragon Quest fan, so I need this... but hope to get it on sale for cheaper.

So a game that's basically Monopoly is rated down for its slow speed?

As far as I know, the Easy mode is faster, but the Standard mode gets more hectic once all the property has been bought out.

I'll be going for it.
I'm a huge fan of Culdcept, where you spend 1-3 hours just to lose and feel like you've wasted your life --- but you play it again anyways because it's awesome: Gameplay time doesn't affect me too much.

@blahblah55

Easy mode is okay, but you miss out on all the strategy of stock market, capital gains, and district investment.

This is a far more involving game than Monopoly, with investments and the ability to devalue someone's land by pulling your stocks from them.

Depending on the level you'll notice a difference too. Some levels only have 4-6 districts (These are shorter games 1-2 hours) other games have upwards of 10 districts (Much longer games 2+. I played on a 10 district and it was 3 hours. Worth every second if I might add.

I want this game so bad! It sounds like a perfect game to me. One that requires lots and lots of play. Why would I want to pay in the $50 range for a game I can beat quickly? Length And Fun are what matters. Now if only I had a Wii.

So I've played four full games with two players. My biggest issue comes from the AI. But the game itself is deep, involving, and fun. I think this review may be a missed mark. It is supposed to be two hours.

I find the first 30 minutes to be plodding. The next 30 minutes to be all about moves. Then things get intense where you're trying to invest smart, get your max capital up and purchase out houses that people own without trying to destroy your overall value.

It's a brilliant and fun experience with two or more players. Single player is a dud, but who cares? Monopoly or any board game alone is dreadful. Tonight is Fortune Street night at my house, first time I get to play it with four people. I'm expecting nothing short of an amazing night.
