Microsoft Flight, a revamped, streamlined flight simulator-slash-game, is accepting applications for its beta program right now. The Microsoft Flight beta is scheduled to begin in January, and the dev team is accepting applications via Microsoft Connect for some brave pilots to try it before everyone else rides it. Applications sent to the Microsoft Flight email will not be reviewed for the beta, so do it right, or don't do it at all. Remember, when you're handling a 100-foot steel tube 32,000 feet above the earth, you only get one chance to get it perfect.

@twocows Oh please. The iPad has a big role in gaming, just ask Nintendo while it's currently drowning.

It's the combination of the poor port and offensive DRM that makes it abusive.
Like a prostate exam only with a full fingered fist instead. Sure, you pay for both versions but the doctor doesn't slap you in the face with a soiled hand and call you a thief.

GFWL isn't that much of a deal breaker, compared to the other crap 'round the net.

It's not by Valve, which makes the DRM that it uses bad. Or something.

GFWL isn't bad by itself, but so often it's coupled with other online services and it just gets in the way. Like Batman: Arkham City. I started it, logged into GFWL, had to download my profile, then patch GFWL after it gave me vague errors like "could not download patch". All while the game was already running through Steam and had no need for GFWL whatsoever.

That's not a problem on GFWLs part. That's just publishers pushing out their game to other distribution platforms other then GFW who then require you to use their DRM on top of GFWL.

They merged the GFW marketplace onto xbox.com but the PC service is still called GFWL.

Boy do I miss the days of playing Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator.
Not really missing playing the game per se but rather playing it for the first time. Those were some good old days.

Oh that whole last part was more of an Ubisoft thing not so much GFWL. Sorry didn't mean for the tangent to throw anyone. Was just going into my two other big deal breakers :P
GFWL is just redundant and I want nothing to do with it..... Ever since I bought Bioshock2 and found out that if I wanted the "privilege" of saving my game progress to my own computer .... I needed a GFWL account .... sorry not happening.
I'm just tired of having to jump through hoops to attempt to enjoy the things I pay for ..... So that is why I don't care to have anything further to do with GFWL.
On the plus side those three deal breakers make choosing games a breeze and have saved me a ton of money ^^

GFWL lets you create an offline profile for games. So you don't have to have an XBL account to play them.

Nice! When can I get to crash all these planes into the flight towers because I never learned to land correctly?!

@SecondTomorrow Reminds me of the time I wanted to take off from JFK, but somehow chose the helipad on top of one of the towers. Not even sure why it would let me spawn a plane there.

I used to play MS Flight Sim something. It was really cool. Yeah. I enjoy flight sim games. Yeah. Pointless comment. I'm signing up.

I will be keeping this game on my radar. Not because I'm an avid flight sim fan, mind you. I'm just curious what content it has that's only appropriate for teenagers and older.

it's certainly time for someone to make another flight game which is neither for people who want to shoot everything else in the sky, or apply for a real pilots license
hopefully this will build on the magic found in the original flight unlimited game.
an acrobatic flight trainer would be fun.

Given it's a Microsoft flight "simulator", there shouldn't be any issue.

I believe that we need a serious flight simulator for consoles. I hope that it is something that will be seen in the near future.

Planes are typically constructed out of Aluminum, not steel... Steel is far too heavy.

I know it probably is but can't find details... will this be PC only or is this "game" enough to make it onto consoles and stuff?
