(Update: According to Major Nelson's Twitter feed, the dashboard update is being pushed to accounts in batches, and should be widely available over the next few hours.)
After Microsoft announced several new services would miss the December 6 launch of the Xbox dashboard update, it has revealed that another major component will also miss the planned launch, namely the dashboard update itself. Major Nelson tweeted the news, noting, "the timing for the Xbox 360 dashboard update has been slightly delayed." Concerned citizens will receive a status update "later today."
Given the last minute nature of the delay -- so last minute that it didn't halt this morning's press release announcing the rollout -- we can't yet say for sure whether it's a matter of hours or days.

The new dash is awesome and as with any large rollout there are bound to be issues. I am in the preview and I can not for see this being more than a few hours delay.

@DiamondXP - I'm guessing it'll be similar to the delay of the first Gears 3 DLC where they announced a delay that morning and then suddenly it appeared that afternoon.
It's probably just a small issue with the rollout and since the majority of the Xbox team is on the West Coast of the US, it's not even 9am there right now so most of the team probably isn't at work yet to get the issue fixed.

Sure, that's fair. But to announce the delay on the morning of?? That's kinda ridiculous. That's like your buddy asking if you want to go Christmas shopping this upcoming Saturday afternoon. Everyday he's texting you what stores he needs to hit up, who he needs to buy for, where he wants to eat, etc. He even texts Saturday morning at 8am and says, "I just got paid and ready to spend".
Then 2 hours later, another text comes through and says, "Sorry bud, I can't do this today."
^^ You really think cool?

@(Unverified) - As long as it is out today, they've technically kept their original promise. While most 360 updates go out in the morning, it's never something they've guaranteed. All they said was that it would be out December 6. It is still December 6 for quite a few more hours where Microsoft is based.
Also, there's no guaranteeing that whatever issue caused the delay was known before this morning.

Okay, that's one update delayed today, your move Nintendo.
(also, is there supposed to be Gears DLC soon? It updated the Achievements and the character roster but I can't seem to find the actual content.)

See, now I've been on the dash preview for a while, but a Netflix update sounds really exciting to me. My favorite part about the Kinect has been the voice controls outside of games (Which is a little sad, but, y'know...) and I would love a better Kinect-integrated Netflix app.

I didn't have any time to play around with it, but it definitely looked as though it was optimized for Kinect. I was also surprised that this wasn't part of the preview. Hopefully it works!

Similar situation. Gotta get my trunk latch fixed so I was going to d/l the update on our non-beta Xbox and set the Kinect stuff up. S'okay though, it'll give me more time to grind my Gears (having greyed out characters in the selection screen aggravates my CDO!)

They're probably just adding some new features that are relevant to gamers....
(i kid, i kid - cloud saving is going to be great for the 1% of us that would make use of it.)

Unfortunately - no they won't.
Beacons are no different than Steam's "recommendations". Sure it's great to know what your friends are playing and what they're looking forward too - but at this point, I can just click the good ol' "Compare Games" and see what my friends are playing (and see what I need to do to get a better Gamerscore on a particular game).
As for Cloud Saving - it will be relevant to gamers like me with multiple consoles and it'll be relevant to gamers who go to friends houses. That's it. Of course, it'll also be great to have when the next generation drops and we can port all our stuff over - but that's a couple years down the road.
Bottom line - these features are nice to have, but not anything worth hyping. The rest of the features are either limited to certain regions (us Canadians won't see any of the channels, I'm sure) or they're just extensions of existing features, like Facebook - and I don't really care to share my 360 exploits with my Facebook friends and family.

@Axcalibur it's worth hyping for me. Beacons is a GREAT feature - lets my friends who see me playing Skyrim know that "hey, I want to play Castle Crashers if you do - hit me up!" Otherwise they would just figure I was only interested in playing my single player game and they might even just not bother talking to me.
And I have two systems so it'll be more than nice not to have to figure out what is the latest save on every game and put it on a USB drive to take with me - as well as keeping my profile on that USB. That's awesome, and very important to me.

Thanks for basically re-iterating the exact same points I made.
I guess Joystiq gamers are easily amused if a couple minor features like this get you all excited. Yes, both Beacons and Cloud saving are going to be handy little perks to have - I am NOT denying this - they just aren't as good as some of you peeps are thinking it will be.

@Axcalibur more than 1%...I know at least 40 people with multiple Xbox 360s and got tired of having to put saves on memory cards and USB drives to play in another room.

@Axcalibur - I made that comment as someone who is in the beta and has been using these features for weeks.
Beacons are far more than Steam's recommendation feature or what you get from looking at someone's game history. It is your friends setting an alert to tell you what they want to play at that particular moment, even if they're doing something else.
Trust me, it may not sound like much now but once you've used it for a little while, you understand why it'll be a game changer.

Because then if you had multiple people on your friends list with CC you'd have to PM them all not being sure who wanted to play the game and who didn't. By setting a beacon you can do one action that says to everyone I want to play this game.
If you start up a game that other players have set a beacon for it will pop up a message saying X players want to play this game. Or if you're doing something else and someone else starts up the game it will pop up a message saying so and so has started playing Y game.

Was anyone in the beta for this? Did they include a way to put the kinect to sleep when a kinect game isn't being used? Or at least disable the on-screen picture of the kinect staring at your crotch while you sit on the couch?

If McMax3000 is correct, then I am very disappointed - I've disabled Kinect and hid it behind my TV - since it's so annoying.
It always seems to be "loading" or running diagnostics - it slows down the initial booting of the system and slows down the dashboard. Because of this, I actually forgot to use it when playing through Halo Combat Evolved.
I might give it another go with the new update - see if things are more speedy and if it's more useful on the dashboard - but somehow, I doubt it.
