Ive read that its a really tough, strict working environment there, Its probably getting very stressful at this stage and people are getting pissed off.

These guys arent the entire team though, The ideas and mechanics are set, The game will still be done.

What does this say about the status of The Last Guardian? I honestly hadn't even thought about the game for a long time. Strange since I am such a huge fan of the studios titles. I'd like to think the game is far enough down the development tunnel that these losses shouldn't make a difference but... it's not like we have seen anything new on it lately.

I guess the people at the studio are realizing that Sony eventually wants them to complete another game.

The Last Guardian has been in development for too long for them to have shown so little. I'm starting to think they were slowly working to stay on Sony's payroll longer. Shadow of the Colossus is a wonderful game, one of my favorites for sure, but less than 3 games in over 10 years and still on the payroll is a comfortable position to be in.

"I'm starting to think they were slowly working to stay on Sony's payroll longer."

Oh, definitely. Because when I play Ico and SOTC, my first thought is, "What a bunch of commercialized money-grabs! These people don't give two shits about delivering quality games, if they can just line their pockets with more of that massive cash from slow paced, non-shooter games that live in the space of quiet tragedy!"

don't be foolish. i realize it must pain you to see one of your favorite game studios in shambles, but the cold hard truth is that Team ICO doesn't deserve to be defended at this point. they mean absolutely nothing to this generation of videogames. when The Last Guardian comes out, be it in 2012, 2013, or 2050, and it ends up being the most amazing game ever than i will eat my words, but i highly doubt i'll even have to. if it were so amazing, why is the studio so reticent to release anything new, screenshots, trailers, or even info-wise? to me, that just says they don't feel too confident about what they've got right now.

This console gen is almost over and they haven't produced anything. Doesn't matter if they're making the best game in the world if it never comes out.

I said SotC is one of my favorite games, so obviously I am not arguing about quality. In fact, I barely play fast paced shooter games so I don't even know why you decided to bring that up.

My point is that even high quality products need to be delivered in an efficient and timely manner and it seems as though Team ICO was not doing that for Sony. At this point, I do not blame Sony if they are shaking things up over there.

Sony might just figure, "screw it, we're spending too much money on these guys and they aren't delivering" and sell off Team ICO, or just close the studio altogether.

Maybe they should do the same to Polyphony, for spending 6 YEARS to make GT5.

Japanese studios tend to work very secretively on their games. Look at Nintendo for example. Many times they announce their games less than a month before they're released.

Contrast this to Western studios, who put out teaser trailers, screenshots, vague bits of info here and there, massive marketing campaigns, etc., all in an effort to build hype.

Even if it is the most amazing game ever this is still a business and Sony need to see returns. SotC released 2005 and we're now approaching 2012 with nothing of value produced by these guys since. So you may not have to eat your words at all.

I hope it is. Ueda clearly doesn't have the best relationship with Sony right now, so I'm more excited about the game from his next, new independent studio.

I see where you're coming from, but at the same time, we don't truly know the circumstances at the studio or what's going on between them and Sony. It's still a sad state of affairs, though.

@CaptainProtonX

I would argue that that's not necessarily the case.

i absolutely agree with this statement. in the article about Fumito Ueda, there were others saying similar things about how Sony is too lenient with its development studios, this one in particular. they need to be pushed harder to put out a product. we are a good ways into this generation already, so much so that there are already murmurs of the new consoles, and yet all we have from Team ICO thus far are a few screenshots and tidbits of info regarding The Last Guardian? that just doesn't cut it...

as much as i hate to admit it, i think it's safe to say that this game won't even come out in 2012, if at all...

You want Sony to push the studios harder? Look at where that got Activision. Constantly regurgitating the same franchises year after year. Granted they made tons of money, but they killed one franchise (Guitar Hero), and are eventually going to kill Call of Duty once gamers get tired of the same sh*t year after year.

Microsoft took a break from the Halo series to let it cool down, now they're building the hype again in anticipation for Halo 4. Activision and other publishers should do they same to their milked franchises.

listen, i'm not saying they should push their studios to release games annually. i hate that as much as you do...all i'm saying is that a game every 7+ years is not a good thing. the studio needs to work a bit harder than that, because right now they're just coming off as being lazy and unproductive. i understand that good Japanese studios like to take their time and whatnot, but we aren't building rocketships here...

While I'm sure the man knows what he's doing, putting any confidence into Flash at this point seems unwise.

Adobe is practically dropping all support and development for Flash. Hence all the lay-offs that have been occurring in the past few weeks. It seems HTML 5 is everyone's focus regarding the web.

But Flash has been the standard for decades, and now Adobe just gets rid of it?

That's like Microsoft dropping Windows in favor of Chrome OS.
