Tony Hawk hints at VGA reveal of another game (probably with his name on it)

The Tony Hawk video game franchise hasn't wiped out completely -- it's just had a few years of practice sans padding or helmet.

"I'll be announcing the upcoming release of something new on Sat; the same day as the Spike Video Game Awards," Pro skateboarder Tony Hawk wrote on Twitter. "Coincidence? I think not."

The Tony Hawk franchise is currently hurting after two years of software that desperately tried to legitimize a skateboard peripheral. The last iteration, Shred, sold a mere 3,000 units in its first week. For comparison's sake, DJ Hero 2 sold 59,000 copies in its first two weeks of availability and Activision took that franchise out ... to a nice farm, where it can play around and roam free.

See, even that would probably sell more than 3000 copies and wouldn't come with a $60 chunk of garbage-bound plastic.

@TheBatman4141 Sad part is, that idea will probably sound better than what actually gets revealed at the VGAs. Let's see how much of a zombie Hawk will actually look this year.

Announcing "Tony Hawk: Tony Hawk". You get your own clone of Tony Hawk that is full of technology.

Only way this could be good news will be if he announces he's make an appearance in Skate 4. Then I would go crazy because want a Skate 4.

You know, I really loved the old tony hawk games. I play Skate 1 a lot when I can't go out skateboarding for whatever reason, it sort of fills that need a little bit. But the THPS series was just so damned fun. It's too bad they got away from the roots of the series. They didn't need to innovate new ways to do tricks, IMO, they just needed bigger levels with more to do. My fave was tony hawk's pro skater 2.

Best thing that Hawk can do: rerelease THPS1-4 in HD.

It's safe to say the Tony Hawk brand and skateboard games in general are dead. Tony had a good run but at this point that style of whacky unrealistic gameplay isn't what consumers want. I'm not sure they even want the sim style of the EA game skate.

Please let this go back to Project 8 era with all the create-a-functions intact; no more pre-set skaters with limited customization either.

@(Unverified) Do you mean pre-Project 8? I'm pretty sure that's the game that started doing away with all the customization functions (playing it right now, actually).

And keep the soundtracks somehow, don't 'update' them.

I understand where you're coming from saying it's hard to feel sorry for a millionaire...I agree. But, at least he still seems genuinely interested. He seems to care. Now, does he care just because he desperately wants to keep his brand relavent, or does he REALLY care? Who knows. I just know that if they would take the franchise back to where if started from: a really fun, physics-be-damned arcade skateboarding game and update it, I for one would be excited!!!

I could definitely see that. You know what? They should just release all the old games with updates graphics and trophies on the PSN / XBLA. I'd rather play the old games than a shitty new one. The new series just can't compete with Skate.

maybe an anouncement of THPS 3 and 4 in HD ? ( i would say 2 which i thought was the best but it was for PS1 not 2 ) unless they take te dreamcast version and port it over ... but no cause it would be a small small screen.

This needs to be a PSN/XBLA mesh up of the original four games.

oh god not this again. i really hope he realizes that tony hawk pro skater 1,2 and underground were the only good games he had.

@Dickhole Pasta THPS3 Was Ok I Never Got To Play THPS4 But I Heard Things Im Just Going By The Ones I Played. P8 And Underground 2 Just Plin Sucked, American Wasteland Was Fun But Not Worth Replaying Or Keeping. Personally THPS 2 Was My Favorite But The THPS Was The Best Out Of All!!

I thought THPS games were over around 10 years ago.

@Dickhole Pasta i agree with everything you said but underground is one of my favorite in the series, the soundtrack is awesome, the gameplay was awesome, i don't think there will be any tony hawk game that will be better than that, also for tony hawk, please please stop making the games, the series is dead, long dead! please give the series some dignity and respect lol

Can't the series just die in a fire, I haven't played a Tony Hawk game since THUG 2 and after playing the Skate series, I can say EA has taken the throne from Activision. Like others have said above just release(well re-release) Tony Hawk 3,4, THUG1/2 on a disc with updated graphics in HD and trophies/achievements and online play if possible.

Seriously? Aren't we tired of these? Last decent one was Proving Ground. Project 8 (the one before it) was decent. Now it's just getting sad. The dude has money. He needs to stop

If they don't remaster/reconfigure the old levels, then they would not have learned from the last disaster.

Also making an awesome park creator that doesn't have the object limits of the old systems/games would be pretty great too.

THPS 5, please. At this point, it would probably be considered retro and be very popular.

Just as long as I don't have to watch someone on stage ATTEMPT to demo the game and FAIL miserably.....

man i used to be a freaking pro (sorry) at pro skater 2. then activision must have had someone telling them to "evolutionize" the series and they came out with garbage.

Before I make my comment, I know I will be bashed by trolls of a certain kind... so here it goes..

Despite both of the tony hawk titles with the skateboard peripheral not catching on, I tilt my hat to Tony Hawk and the developer. At least they took a chance and tried something new to revitalize the franchise. The same can't be said for another activision franchise. "cough... call of duty... cough"

Can we get a restraining order to stop him from announcing a new game?

Activision - truly gluttons for punishment. They just need to make "Tony Hawk: I'm Done"

Their money is better spent on development of that cancelled COD adventure game to have been made by Sledgehammer.
