makes sense that MS would not put all the features of their product on a competitors platform... BUT... what is interesting in all of this is that Microsoft KNOWS that they can't beat or join the levels of iOS's demands and sales. Apple pretty much has a lock on mobile apps.

It's got to be a bitter pill to swallow for MS, but I'm super impressed they swallowed it anyway. Was definitely the right thing to do for iOS-owning Xbox users. Now, how about Android ...

You do realize Microsoft is primarily a software company right? They have been putting out software for Apple products for decades. I don't think this is a signal they will give up on Window's Phone, but just another piece of software they have put out.

That you spid! Please people, a "bitter pill" for MS or "slap in the face to Winphone people," not at all. It's a strategic no-brainer for MS. You make an app for the dominant platform. And as spid pointed out, MS and Apple have had a relationship since the 80's. This is nothing new. And it's not surprising the app would have stronger integration on WinPhone.

I've been tinkering with the iOS app for a day. I love it. I can now spam my friends while at work.

Good times. Good times.

I downloaded the app (which I love) on my HTC Trophy (which I love).
It works great. It was fun to control the xbox from the phone.
I don't see myself using it alot as I have a media remote. but it is nice to navigate arond my xbox while still watching netflix.

I am sure there is no real need to port it to antoher OS. I mean the app is free, so they are not losing money by keeping on WP.

WP should get more love. It's a great platform. I used to have a droid. And own an IPAD. and WP7 is nicer.

I am in the same boat. Switched from Android about 6 months ago and have never looked back. But one use I have found for this app, turning on my XBLA games while I'm at work and my GF is watching Netflix! lol

Now this should shutup the people from yesterday saying that iOS getting that app was a slap in the face to WinPho people. Now they just need to get phones with features I need and I will be all over a WinPho....Nokia needs to hurry up and give us an N9 with Winpho on it...

@Chris; So what you should have said was "Now they just need to get phones with front facing cameras" instead of "phones with features." WP7's are already loaded with tons of features that none of their competitors have, and now that the Mango update has rolled out, it's easily a fully functional and very mature smart phone.

However, I do understand that if there's even one feature that's very important to them, then they've gotta have it. I'm just trying to make the case that it's not some featureless phone to be completely discredited.

That's why I said that they "sort of did" :]

The best features of the N9 are definitely missing, for me most importantly is the 4" screen that is now 3.5" and of course the lack of front facing camera too.

It's for people who can't send a mass text from their home screen whenever they want to meet up on Shadowrun that evening because they don't actually know the people on their friend list.

@Faceless Troll; I find it handy for when people message me on Xbox Live and I want to message them back. I don't have to fiddle with the controllers clunky keyboard. Instead I just slid out the keyboard on my phone and I've got my reply message done in a few seconds.

Well lucky for us you don't make business decisions for MS. They clearly see a point to the app. I certainly do. I have an iPad and the app is beautiful and useful. I used it to message my Xbox friends last night and to tweak my profile.

I used the 360Live app that spanish guy made all the time ! Especially for messaging friends. I'd actually even use it when I was already online and didn't want to actually talk to a friend but send him a quick message (assuming my messenger keyboard wasn't in close proximity.)

Also great for comparing / looking up achievements without needing to pause the game.

I was pleasantly surprised by the iOS app. Wouldn't be too bothered if the console integration didn't make it past the Windows Phone though. As with Kinect, I still prefer my cozy controller.

That's too bad. It's a great phone! Now I suppose you'll go on a rant about how iOS or Android is better, but to each his own. WP has every major "necessary" feature that those others have, and the phone performs amazingly fast.

Just downloaded the app on my HD7. Its really cool and responsive. Don't know if anyone else posted about this, but the app also has a control function where you can use your phone to navigate throughout the entire dashboard!

Yep, that control function is seriously awesome. Last night I probably spent at least an hour playing around with it navigating the new dashboard. I showed it to my wife and she was really impressed. The app also has a Metro interface which complements beautifuly with the new dashboard. Can't wait for further updates to expand control over my Xbox - an ON/OFF control would really complete this app.

Technically you can turn OFF the Xbox if you navigate to the Setting section in the new dashboard, but there is no ON function. Your Xbox has to be on with the Companion setting enabled

Not yet at least. If the app can control the menu system on the Xbox, I don't see why it couldn't perform a simple on/off command. I'm hoping it will come in the next update. But its not a deal breaker. The app is pretty sweet.

I think you're all confused.
The iOS app adds some of the features already built into the phone
It was nothing to do with the Companion except maybe show people what they're missing.
And no, the companion won't come to iOS because what reason do they have to negate a huge benefit of owning a windows phone.

Just downloaded the Xbox Companion app on my WP7 and let me tell you its awesome. It works perfectly as a remote control for your Xbox 360. Almost no lag at all. This is technology well done. Great job Microsoft. My only request would be to enable an Xbox on/off control.

The iOS app and the Live Companion app are two completely different things. Xbox Companion turns your phone into an Xbox controller + auxilary display. The iOS app adds access to the Xbox live network for friends/messaging, which was built into WP7.
