Bastion gets The Stranger's Dream DLC next week, $0 on PC, $1 on XBLA
34
It looks like the folks at Supergiant Games are really getting into the holiday spirit. As "a show of thanks" to their fans, the Bastion devs are releasing The Stranger's Dream DLC on December 14, "a new fully narrated Who Knows Where sequence, bigger and more challenging than the others. You'll gain a bit more insight into Rucks' backstory as well as the history of Caelondia if you can survive this fight."
In addition to that Who Knows Where sequence – think challenge arena, if you haven't played Bastion yet – this DLC pack will enable a "Score Attack Mode" in which your combat performance is evaluated in each level, and a "No-Sweat Mode" so those of you who really stink at video games can still enjoy the narrative and aesthetic experience of playing Bastion. The catch: To access The Stranger's Dream and Score Attack Mode, you'll need to finish the game at least once; fortunately, No-Sweat Mode can help you make short work of that challenge.
The other catch: Though the update will be available for free for PC, via Steam, the Google Chrome version, or other online vendors, the Xbox Live Arcade version needs to cost something. That's Microsoft's policy, holidays be damned. So Supergiant has priced this DLC at just 80 Microsoft Points or, as you and I may call it, $1. Supergiant's Greg Kasavin said that price is "about as close as we could get" while following Microsoft's policy. We appreciate that.

I wish all DLC cost as little as 80 MSP.

Why does this comment diverse 1 heart? I'm sorry but what's wrong with a person stating a fact and opinion. Oh right, this is the internet.

Microsoft seriously wont let up for christmas? What a nice, caring company :\

@Billlop This is why I'm glad I recently bought a new computer, between Steam and my PS3 the 360 is just collecting dust. PC seems to get almost all the xbla games that matter and with a PS3 I play the PSN exclusives.

That's been my reasoning for a long time. People sure do get pissy when I share it though, but it's just the right decision for me. Makes me wonder if they are just insecure.

I can't wait to see what else this company puts out. Bastion was easily Arcade goty for me this year. Still love the soundtrack, too.

Wow, this game is gorgeous. It takes me back to the Sega's Oasis series.
Will definitely pick it up soon.

Wow, that's really cool! Thanks devs! That whole microsoft thing puts a bad taste in my mouth. I know the industry is designed to make money, but come on! Damn cold corporate jerkfaces...

Kid appreciates what he sees. Wants to thank the people who created this world. Kid still knows nothing about why he or the world exist, but he still appreciates it.
Kid doesn't care for microsoft. Kid knows money is what is behind all of this, but still cant seem to understand why the enemy acts this way.
Even though kid has known his enemy for years, he refuses to travel any further down their road.

Out of all the games I've bought in the past 6 months and haven't gotten around to playing, this is the one I feel most guilty about.

I wish this game would go on sale. It sounds like its worth full price, but I just can't ever bring myself to pay full price for an Arcade title, considering how often they've gone on sale. I've been burned by that a few times, so now I try and be patient.

My guess is that we'll see a bunch of sales around Christmas like they had last year.

Has anyone ever seen this "no free DLC" policy that developers refer to about LIVE? I'm wondering what it's all about.
Someone must have this policy to share with us.

There's free DLC but someone has to pay for it. Sometimes it's MS's first parties and they pay and sometimes the DLC is brought to us by "random advertiser" It's not a bad policy although I wish "customer friendly" valve would have taken the $1 train instead of the $7 for the same DLC for 2 different games train.
