I thought it was great news. The poor man hasn't actually been making games in years. Too bad the investors freaked.

And just to clarify: the originally quotes from Miyamoto referred to him "retiring" from his current position as head of EAD, and working more directly on games himself.

Aka, making games again, instead of managing people who make games.

Well, most of the people reading it will be. But not everyone reads all the articles, and if you come to this one without having read the last, it might not be clear.

The investors freak every time Nintendo confirms that they do not make iOS games.

Nintendo's investors are morons

But you're missing the point Miyamoto is trying to make. If we keep focusing on current starts, it hinders the opportunity for new stars to shine. He recognizes that.

Yeah, that bit about him aging normal smells sickly. Like a sickly yellow. Like yellow journalism.

Humble?! Lets not get carried away here. Last Xmas office party, he started a fight, hit on my girlfriend, and was caught making out with Reggies wife in the janitor closet.

we can't expect the man to last forever, as gamers we should honor his decision to part ways. its not like he won't have anything to say about how is creations are used, he just won't be in charge on record.

now you if you have stock in Nintendo then maybe this news may be (or not) a little bitter

I think he doesn't go the Inafune way. I understand wanting to go back to working directly in projects. I hope Nintendo gives him the chance to do that... at least half-time or something.

This is why Nintendo needs to get in touch with Aperture Science to see about working out the kinks in that brain-uploading thing. Because dammit, there are very few people in this world who should be able to live forever doing what they love, and Mr. Miyamoto is one of them.

And before anyone asks, no, not everyone should be allowed to be uploaded into a robot to do what they do best for all of eternity, because if we did that, we'd have two or three billion robots who just sit around all day and whack off.

@John Z I believe you just gave someone the best idea for a new science fiction story. I call the title: "Jerk-Off 3000" or wait, "The Non-Attack of the Mastur-Bots".

He may be right. Imagine a Zelda game headed up by someone else!

... NO. DON'T THINK OF THAT. DON'T GO, MIYAMOTO.

The Zelda series has been headed up by Eiji Aonuma since Majora's Mask.

He ages at the normal rate? I thought he was either immortal, or just reincarnates like Link.

Nuh uh. Nintendo will figure something out. I'm sure they've been working on anti-aging methods for years now.

And thus Joystiq managed to bring down my dreams for the future D:
If Miyamoto isn't immortal, then how could I ever hope to be?

It does make you wonder. At some point Nintendo is going to develop games without Miyamoto.
Are they developing the resources to continue? You don't hear about much coming from the next generation in Nintendo.

They're definitely looking to the future. Sure, it may be 20 or more years before Miyamoto decides to retire from the whole business, but he (and the rest of the smart gentlemen and women at Nintendo) realises that the future is uncertain. You never know what might happen, so they're planning on the future now, making sure that there's more than just Miyamoto around who people can look to and say "THAT man/woman is Nintendo!"

That way, when the eventual day comes that Miyamoto finally decides it's time to hang up the cap and overalls, that it won't bring Nintendo crashing down. Good hands, and all that.
