I got this in the steam sale the other day. It's pretty excellent.

I really like the idea of logging in on any chrome browser to play.

It's a great first game from developer Super Giant Games, why not support them? They'll probably come out with even better games. I have the game on my PC and 360. Now I'll have it on my Mac!

@wunwunx It's easily a steal for $15.00. Beautiful presentation and plenty of gameplay.

Hrum. It won't work for me, claiming my computer's graphics card can't support it.

Which is funny, because I have the Steam version running right now.

@Colin Chrome requires your graphics drivers to be updated to some minimum level (~2009?). That should fix your issue

Yeah, I'm getting the same error message but my drivers are good and "open-gl compatible". I was excited to try it out, especially without having to download. Upside, I didn't know there was a demo available on steam, so at least I can still try it out.

Been wanting to play this game since they announced it. I've Been holding out for the PS3 version (if we get lucky and it actually comes out on it...) So this is pretty bad ass...

@xddga I can't run the PC version either, I'm really anxious to see a "PS3 release!" announcement. Otherwise I can't spend money on this beautiful game!

Shame they will block your browser from downloading if you're not on Chrome. What happened to an open web? That's why I stick to firefox, not buying into this corporate chrome shit.

Uhh, there are so many things wrong with what you just said... first of all, *a lot* of Mozilla's funding comes from Google. Second of all, why not complain that you can't install Firefox extensions in IE, Safari, Chrome, Opera, etc? This game is not much different than an extension in that you actually have to install something first before playing it, it's not like a flash game or something similar. Third of all, Chrome is based on an open source browser (Chromium), like Firefox, and it supports all the same open web standards that Firefox supports.

@penubag Firefox doesn't currently support the open source native client project. If and when it does, then Bastion may be able to run on it as well.

Doesn’t matter.

why not complain that you can't install Firefox extensions in IE, Safari, Chrome, Opera, etc?
Because they are extensions to assist you, not to be a core part of the Web.

not much different than an extension in that you actually have to install something first before playing it
It’s more like a plugin, which is a plugin. As we all remember from the Apple/Flash hoohar, plugins aren’t the future of the Web.

it's not like a flash game or something similar.
It pretty much is, its just using a different proprietary blob.

Chrome is based on an open source browser (Chromium)
Also strictly controlled by Google. Built on WebKit, which is again…

supports all the same open web standards that Firefox supports.
It does, also supports plenty of NIH Google formats that they are using to gain browser market share.

I can visit the firefox addon page in any browser and download the addon as an xpi file and view the source. Chrome is locked to only chrome and won't allow any access to outside browsers

@penubag There's no real source to view, NaCl content is x86 binaries compiled for the NaCl API. If you're complaining about not being able to view the store, it's because they don't want people complaining that they can't install addons in a browser that isn't Chrome.

Honestly I don't get how this is "Corporate Chrome shit". Chrome is written by the original Firefox team, it's open source (BSD licensed) and Native Client is open source and an open spec that Mozilla could freely implement if they wanted.

@penubag you have bought into some corporate bullshit somewhere... What are you surfing the web with? Your personal operating system on hardware of your own design?

Stop complaining about corporate bullshit as there is no way around it.

Pick your ecosystem that you want to be involved in and ignore anything outside that ecosystem.

I have bought into the Xbox/Xbox Live ecosystem and have been playing Bastion for many weeks. Others are in the PS3 ecosystem and will not be playing Bastion for a long time, but that is their choice.

@penubag Because only Chrome and Chrome-derived browsers support NaCL (native client) tech so far. It's an open spec with a FOSS implementation, so Firefox could definitely run this when they feel like adding NaCL to their browser.

Nice. I'd probably pick it up if I had Chrome on more than one computer. Just FYI, your Chrome Web Store source link seems to lead back to the main Joystiq page.

Wish they'd of allowed a way to check your existing ownership of the game, since I'd love to see how Chrome handles the game compared to my native install from Steam. But I'm not going to pay $15 to just test it out in Chrome when I've owned it since day one. =(

Playing it within a browser actually takes a ton of memory. I'd love to see a comparison of performance browser vs. native x86 client.
