Did you just watch the trailer? I think that pretty much answers your question. No it is not.

Activision sure knows what we want out of Spider-Man games.

More battles against generic robots, please. Never mind all the amazing villains in the Spider-Man rogue's gallery.

@slickie If it were Sentinels and the job was to protect the city or even a small band of kid mutants...THAT'D be epic.

What you don't realize is that all of those robots are perks from COD: MW4!!

@slickie Actually, its called a spider slayer and they are a serious part of Spider-Man canon...so I take it you are just the "I love Spider-Man" type who really has only seen the movie and thinks that means you know all things Spider-Man?

@sammo21 You're correct in assuming I am not a hardcore Spider-Man fan who has read every comic and seen every episode of the multiple television series.

After reading up a bit on the Spider Slayers, I've come to two conclusions - A) In general, I still find humanoids with personalities and interesting powers more interesting than the Spider Slayers and B) Even as Spider-Slayers go, the ones in the trailer looked more generic than some of the earlier, more interesting designs.

Also, I've noticed that there's no official word that these are even Spider-Slayers. I've read that they were basically designed as Spider-Man-killing machines. Why would Smythe (and later J. Jonah Jameson) build a massive Spider-Slayer the size of Central Park just to kill Spider-Man? Unless it's not really a Spider-Slayer, and just a giant generic robot designed like I first thought.

What the hell is this? Spiderman doesn't fight huge boss robot crap. He fights people like Doc Oc, Green Goblin, and big thugs, like Batman. They love to put huge boss battles in these games thinking it will make it better or people will think it's cool, but it's not. Spiderman 2 was the best, open world, fighting crime, awesome moves, nothing crazy supernatural or HUGE, just fun gameplay.

@Warlock234 Uhm, various Sentinels and Spider-Slayers disagree with that notion.

Now GENERIC robots I'm with you on, but Spider-man has definitely iced giant robots as part of his gig.

@Warlock234

Huh? Yah he does. he fought Sentinels before also, Spider-Slayers are always mostly big robots.

and in the last thing with Dr. Octopus, ... he made giant robots that ravaged the city and it took the Avengers, X-men, and Fantastic Four to take them all out.

Just so you know, Spidey also fought Dinosaurs in the Savage land :)

Jon Peters the guy who wrote one of the Superman Returns treatment (back in the mid 90s) where Brainiac has a black gay robot side-kick, Superman can't fly, where's an all black suit and fights in the Fortress of Solitude, was insistent that Superman MUST fight a large robotic spider. When everyone who had a brain realized he was a moron, he (inexplicably) went on to produce Wild West with Will Smith, who not coincidentally, did fight a large robotic spider.

Why am I saying this? Because I just asked Jon Peters, perhaps the most insane out if it nut hole who ever got a high profile Hollywood gig about this trailer and he said "What? Spider-Man fighting giant robotic spiders? That's stupid!"

Gotta side with Jon Peters on this one. Beenox, for God's sake, listen up. Stop what you're doing and make a real game that Spider-Man fans want to play. Take your pride, mail it to a post office box somewhere in India, pick up the phone and call the guys at Neversoft, Treyarch and Shaba Games (defunct unfortunately) and beg them to give you some ideas and write a design document for this game.

Problem solved. You're welcome.

@ppryan Oops! Sorry. I didn't know Kevin Smith told this story, I'm assuming you mean Superman, right? I just knew of this story from way back when and I was totally paraphrasing it so I may have definitely butchered it accidentally. I'm going to go hunt that out. Love Kevin Smith and I bet it's an awesome tale. Alright, between the last sentence and this one I Youtubed it and man, you're right on both counts - 1.That was hilarious and 2. I DID butcher it. :)

Play Spider-Man 2.
The movie game or Enter Electro for PS1.
A good Spider-Man game is freaking fantastic. I'll let them flush out all the crappy games they want and then buy it when they finally do it right again.

I simply don't understand.

They could easily make a good Spider-Man game, and yet it's like they don't even bother trying.

Spiderman's only amazing if you press 'A' really, really fast repeatedly. Developers haven't learned how to make a video game were improvisation is the best weapon.

OMG! I just watched a cinematic trailer for a game for which I have no idea what the plot is about, what characters will appear and how the gameplay will turn out, but because it didn't feature any of the signature spiderman villains that have been done a dozen times over ad nauseum I am going to totally freak out and call this game the worst spiderman game ever! Also, the spiderman's suit pattern is a bit different than the one I saw when I was 11 so that must mean he totally sucks!
