Wonder if the bouncy level will still be cranked to 11 with Itagaki now gone.

Yes, since that was never his addition in the first place. The feature was jokingly put in the first game, when it was ultra screwy, and they got a laugh out of it and let it slide. Since then it was Namco insisting that go in anything Team Ninja did, except Other M by Nintendo's mandate.

Does anyone know whether this plays closer to 3 or to 4? I loved DOA3 and was one of the most played games from when I first got there original xbox up until I got the 360 and DOA4.

Felt like they changed the changed the timings for things like counters while significantly upping the damage for them - and nerving normal combat comparatively. Add in a super cheap boss and it killed the balance of accessibility vs depth that it had for me - I hope they move back to a balance closer to what they had with the third one.

Body Proportions seem much better in DOA5 compared to DOA4.

=p That is one thing that has been majorly changed.

I don't know. I'm only judging by these 5 screenshots - are there more? I should look - but Ayane seems like she still has a big ol' rack. Verdict's out on the other one by virtue of her non-revealing... what?!

I hope they continue to bring more "maturity" to this series.

I've been with DOA since the PS1, and it possesses my favorite fighting mechanic, but its de-evolution into pervey, peeping tom, wish fulfillment makes it almost unplayable.

@Korbie As ridiculously exploitative as that game was, I really enjoyed the mechanics of the volleyball.

That's like picking up a Playboy and someone you know sees you looking at it and you go, "I just read it for the articles." That'll convince 'em, right?

@(Unverified) Don't get me wrong, I like the T&A in DOA, but as the series has progressed, the women's faces have gotten younger and younger looking. I know the characters actually are young according to their bios, but if you examine the facial characteristics, they more closely resemble the facial characteristics of children rather than teenagers.

I can see how the QTE moments you might not be sold on yet David, but the more realistic, less creepy doll look, I can only see as a very, very good thing.

DOA4 still has THE BEST online features. BAR NONE. Of Fighting Games this generation. The avatars, spectator mode, arenas, tournies, gamestore, ranking, and modes basically takes a dump over other "better" fighting games features.

Really embarrassing that a 2005 game trumps stuff released recently.

I've never owned a DoA game, but I'll most likely be getting this one. I like the look of this game, and the new additions like the power move and, strangely enough, I'm even curious about the QTE.

From some of the posts here it sounds like I had missed out on some decent experiences in the past games.

I'm not going to lie it seems like Itagaki being gone is this best thing to happen to DOA and Ninja Gaiden. He was holding them back with creepy perverted loli, the impossible achievements, and the overall dated japanese game design. Also, while I am an Xbox fanboy. I am happy for PS3 owners to have the opportunity to enjoy these franchises. Something which never would have occurred with him still there.

@Cobra4455 Yes, it's good that Itagaki is gone, as we can see by the cluster**** that is NG3 as of now, the inclusion of QTEs, wall climbing mechanics (so much fun!), multiplayer that will probably be nice in concept but will be horribly executed, and the like. The moment Hayashi added boob motion controls to Sigma 2, I knew a new legend had been born.

Hayashi is the best thing that has happened to the industry.

@Cobra4455 Yeah, this and Ninja Gaiden 3 look amazing now. The new pop-art style they're both going with really makes the bright colors stand out. Looks awesome!

You say that "Dead or Alive fans don't have much to worry about so far" but you also say that "Each character felt largely unchanged from Dead or Alive 4."

The gameplay looks identical to that of the worst game in the series, therefore, we have plenty to worry about. I really hope Team Ninja fixes everything Itagaki botched in DOA4. I really want DOA5 to be a great game, I really do, but then they gave us Dimensions which was basically a portable DOA4 so I'm not too confident at this point.

I'm hoping the counters plays more like DOA2... I wasn't able to stick with the series after DOA2HC. Didn't like their changes to how counters worked. :\

@wrongThinker What? What changes are you referring to? Do you mean the timing? They've been the same until recently in DOA Dimensions. Or are you referring to the four directional holds in DOA2U and DOA4? The original DOA2 also had four directional holds, with double direction inputs, go turn on your DOA2 Hardcore and switch it to arcade controls in the settings.
