I can't recommend Pushmo enough. It starts off really simple, (almost frustratingly so with the tutorials) but it quickly evolves into a real mind bender. The level creation is a blast, too. You don't need to know what you're doing to make something cool.

I highly recommend Shantae: Risky's Revenge (on DSiWare) for a portable metroidvania adventure. Although a little on the short side (I clocked in about eight hours when I defeated the final boss), its a total blast to play and just oozes with charm.

@Xabidar

Considering some full-price retail games have around 8 hours of gameplay, I'd say that's pretty decent for a downloadable handheld game.

I don't get the obsession with that game. Granted I didn't play it until a couple years ago, but I though it was the worst of all the Zelda's I've ever played except maybe the original NES. It's just got so many annoyances. God forbid you ever touch a rock or something, you'll encounter a huge wall of text. The "great" story was spoiled by the owl around the halfway point, and before even the 7th dungeon, the owl had basically told you exactly what happens at the end. And while this is a fault of the hardware and not the game, I couldn't stand only having 2 item slots and all the constant switching that came with it.

I mean, it's still fun for sure but it's way more overrated than a lot of the other games. I recognize that it pushed the hardware and the genius of a portable Zelda on Gameboy, and I felt the 2D platforming sections really made the game stand out among other Zelda titles, but I guess I just don't see the appeal cause I didn't own a gameboy and don't have the nostalgia. I'd much rather just move my VC copy of A Link to the Past onto the 3DS.

Now that I'm done with my rant though, I'm curious on one thing: Does this game actually have a 3D effect added to it? I remember the IGN review saying some 3D had been added but I haven't seen that anywhere else, and am frankly a bit puzzled on how that would work outside the 2D platforming sections.

No, there's no 3D effect. I don't know where IGN got that idea from!

Surprised Cave Story isn't on here. Anybody who hasn't played Cave Story on DSiWare, Wiiware, or even the new 3DS version owes it to themselves to play it. More people need to play Cave Story already!

There is a disgusting lack of Link's Awakening DX on this list. I'd opt for it over Balloon Kid anyday.

Once a few years ago a few of the 1st party Genesis titles went on sale from 8 to 5 dollars for a week or two before Xmas. Other than that, to my knowledge there's never been a sale on any of Nintendo's estores.

Lots of good stuff here, though as mentioned above "Link's Awakening DX" for 3DS VC is sorely missing from this list. For that matter the free LoZ: Four Swords Anniversary title for 3DS/DSi is a must-have for any Zelda fan.

As for the rest:

Bonk: I'd highly recommend any Bonk title and this SNES version is on my list to buy at some point.

Wii VC: Liight was a good one from 2011 and there are some older ones like the Art Style series which are quality titles as well.

@monkey man: No, they don't seem to do sales.
