Exclusives are fine, to an extent.

But Flashing Alan Wake to PC Gamers for 5 Years, having the PC as lead development platform, and having a PC version complete or near-complete but to find out at the END, that Microtard takes control of the publishing rights and forces the developer to release the game exclusively on the Xbox because Microsoft's exclusive lineup for their console is weak.

^Now this is what makes me mad.

It is almost as bad as Halo. Flashing Halo as a PC/Mac game only to find out that Microtard takes control of the game and decides to release it on their console for launch.

Dumbest part is MS sabotaging their own Windows platform, as if they're so dumb they can't see Apple standing there waiting to do PC gaming better than MS. Bet it will have GFWL deleting saves all the time and generally interfering with the game.

"Apple standing there waiting to do PC gaming better than MS"

Apple has shown little to no interest in bringing over the PC gaming crowd

games face releases against monsters almost in all their release dates, arkham had a monster called skyrim in front... both did good, both were released for all the platforms, both had success. if anybody thinks that a game like skyrim would´ve sold the same amount if it ´d been an exclusive title for any of the three main platforms then that person should never apply for the marketing section of Bethesda.

yeah, i'm sure Apple is just chomping at the bit to innovate in the PC market by bringing casual games to those who have been playing them for free for years on their web browsers.

I remember this well. I followed this game for quite awhile. I remember all the hype about how it was going to push the PC platform to the limit with it's light and shadows in the game. When the devs came out and completely disrespected PC users with some the stupid things they said I swore I'd never buy a game make by this dev.

I think PC gamers need to go back and see what the devs had to say about us, about how the PC platform isn't suited to scary games etc etc.

Go ahead and release it on PC, don't care, you lost me several years ago as a customer.

So did mass effect. It really has to do with who owns the IP, microsoft or remedy?

Mass Effect was developed on PC and Xbox 360 at the same time. Just Microsoft started playing the Business-Gaming Politics game and decided to release the game as a timed-exclusive game.

But Mass Effect released on PC and Xbox simultaneously, and it's not owned by Microsoft. EA is the publisher.

Mass Effect 1 was published by MS on the Xbox 360 (November 20, 2007), EA on PC (May 28, 2008).

Microsoft had exclusive rights to publish Mass Effect when it was released on Xbox 360 in November 2007. EA happened to buy up the Bioware-Pandemic partnership the previous month, hence EA published Mass Effect PC in May 2008. Presumably, something tying to the Microsoft exclusivity prevented Mass Effect from being released for PS3 even following the EA buyout.

Woohoo, facts

To me what's more interesting about this is seeing a Microsoft Published game on steam. Previously, MS was stubborn and released games like Halo 2 or Gears 1 on GFWL and Retail only. Alan Wake coming to PC is surprising as it is, but MS caving and offering games on steam? I find that hard to believe. Then again, there are plenty of games available on steam that also use GFWL.

That said, I loved Alan Wake, and if it did happen to show up on steam, I'd buy it again.

They probably just came to their senses and realized that they'd scrape up a lot more money by publishing games on Steam also. They never really had a "killer app" for GFWL, not pushing the hype train behind anything really. EA's mass hype behind Battlefield 3 paired with a forced reliance on Origin is helping them out, but for how long?

some of these kind of scarier games do really really well on PC, especially high quality titles. This should have been on PC in the first place, since I remember the first trailers and builds shown were running on a PC with crazy good hardware, stuff that never seemed to show up in the 360 version.

I scratched my head when they justified cutting the PC version because a horror game like this was "a better experience on console"

Hell no, a horror game like this is better when I'm completely immersed, close to the screen, with headphones on. Not laying around on the couch in the family room. I guess it's personal preference, though.

What would make it scarier is playing this game at 60+ Frames per second at 1920 x 1080p+ Resolution.

Much Better than Xbox 360's 30 Capped Frames Per Second and at a Horrible 540p rez.

I'm not even talking about technical graphics, just the tech demo showing the really cool dynamic physics and real time rendering. Seemed like they completely walked away from using those as something to draw in PC enthusiast types.

One less reason for me to reinvest in a 360. Maybe if Kinect gets some more good games outside of Dance Central and Gunstringer...

Now to wait for the eventual Steam sale. If they mark it at $50 Day One, though, I'll be a bit miffed. Making us wait, lying, cancelling, and then bringing it back at full price would be pretty shoddy.

But $30? Hrmmm, I could get behind that.

Halo was great,... I loved it on the PC and the original Xbox. Gears was great... until 2 jumped the shark and the multiplayer crapped the bed. DiRT is my racing series (PC versions are gorgeous), and Fable sucked after the first one.

Plus, I like investing $400 in hardware that doesn't break. After mine bit the dust, I went back to PC gaming.
