Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD soundtrack likely won't be identical to old games
79
Following the announcement of Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD, we were filled with nostalgia. We instantly put on some "Superman" and did some Google image searches for Warehouse. We were pumped.
But then, a concern popped into our brain: would our beloved soundtracks from Tony Hawk Pro Skater and its sequel return? Is that a realistic expectation? According to the One of Swords blog, "probably not."
"Right now, everything is unknown, and there's a lot more work to do before things are final," says Activision's Dan Amrich. He posits a few different scenarios, where the developers could chase licensing on these original tracks or simply license brand-new ones. If you're looking for all of your old favorites, you may end up disappointed.

I'm not very familiar with the old soundtrack, and not that I don't love Goldfinger, but I feel like it would be more financially reasonable to just get the old tracks licensed. I can't imagine they're getting a whole ton of platime anymore-- getting new tracks sounds not only less authentic, but more expensive.

I know this article is supposed to be about the soundtrack, but...
I guess they ran out of ideas? Here, I have one... Caveman themed skateboarding!

Wont be worth it unless it has the old sound track.

That Goldfinger: "Superman" song is still a favourite, even after all these years i still listen to it fairly regularly. My brother and his mate were in the few elite who could get 1.4mil + score in the original Tony Hawk 1 on Ps1 in the "School" level and it was amazing.

Getting 1.4mill+ on school was easy. Map was glitched as all hell lol.

I actually had no idea the map was any sort of glitched and when i watched my brother and his mate pull off a lot of ridiculous BS in School, nothing i saw was anything remotely glitchy. It was all simply perfect timing and dozens of hours of practice.

Plus, what music would they use these days? Every thing is emo or rap sh*t, nothing suites it, I don't know about any one else, but If I am going to pretend to be a pro skater, I don't want to do it to emo music.

maybe him going out IS the problem. you're probably not going to discover good music that way, so your best bet would be to just stay in and download it off the internet. i'm not talking about pirating, but everything is digital these days, and digital sales are a good way for the smaller indie labels to make some cash.

I agree with everyone above, this needs the original soundtrack or it's a deal-breaker. You'd think we're being petty, but really, if you make a HD remake, it should be exactly that. Leave the core features the same as they were 10 years ago or no deal.
Music today is shit, music 11 years ago was magnitudes better and it would just feel wrong and empty without those original tracks.

I didn't say it was shit because I don't like what's on the radio, I say it's shit because it is shit. Also, I never said that I miss "those shitty pop ska power punk songs from 11 years ago." I simply stated that the music that was being made 11 years ago is simply better than the 'music' being made today and I want the game with it's original soundtrack, is that a crime? Plus, anybody who knows anything about music know that the further back you go in time, the better the music gets... Obviously there's a cut-off point, but that's the general rule.
I generally don't argue online, because it's the lowest thing any human can possibly do, but you've pissed me off just enough that I thought I would reply. Thanks.

I like how you criticize Apsac for saying that today's music is shit and implying that he needs to grow up and isn't a music fan, yet you then go on to say that music from the time the original games were released is shit.
Hypocrisy is awesome.

If you honestly think music gets better the older it is you really don't listen to music at all.
You don't know ANYTHING about music and there's so much innovation and interesting new music these years.
Try listening to something like Godspeed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8kgu6rf0Ek) and tell me modern music sucks.
go back to listening to dad rock and i'll be here enjoying actual music.

@Apsac D Sorry, but you only remember the good bands from the late 90s. tons of awful stuff came out of that period, as that was when Nu Metal really peaked and ska and pop punk were cash cows. An ass ton of wannabes and coat tail riders showed up to water down and ruin perfectly good genres until people just got sick of hearing it (let's all break out our Smash Mouth CDs, yall!!). 10 years from now, people will be talking about how awesome music was in the 10s and someone like me will pop up, again, to remind them that awesome albums come out, every single year, without fail. If you aren't aware of what those awesome albums are, it's because you aren't aware of them, not because they don't exist.
PS in case my sarcasm didnt come through, Smash Mouth sucks.

I love that you use that Godspeed song as a reference for "Awesome Modern Music".
It's a stylistic copy of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Which was better. And guess what... It's OLD.

Wow.
They aren't even close to being similar.
You're comparing one of the best progressive rock albums ever to the best post-rock album ever.
Their messages and styles of music are completely different.
have you even listened to LYSFLATH and DSOTM?
do you think amnesiac is a rip-off of the wall?

my favorite album is from 2000.
I'm just saying that there was indeed shitty music 11 years ago.

odd that you use Godspeed as an example when that very song you chose was released 11 years ago. the fact that GYBE isn't together anymore doesn't really help your argument, either. still, i agree, there is good music out there, you just have to look for it. as far as i see it, good music was never played on the radio anyhow, so who really goes there to find it? does anyone?

The iOS port of Tony Hawk 2 didn't have the original tracks and this probably won't either, unfortunately. It would be sweet if whoever did the Dave Mirra game for PSX did an HD remake of it. Loved that game.

Tony hawk pro skater 2 was my first skateboarding game and I loved it. Can't say I remember the soundtrack but I was just a kid at the time. After pro skater 2 my next skating game was TH: Underground which was pretty cool too. After that I got Skate. I wish I got more into them, I forgot how much fun they were after all these years. Hope they keep the OST so it can bring back better memories.
