Never played it, never wanted to, but it's still sad that a world has disappeared. I'm sure there were some people there who liked it and would have rathered it not disappear. The new one should be better. We hope. Well, Star Wars MMO fans hope.

Surprisingly sad. Haha, people put lots of work into mmos, it seems like a shame.

Such a nice ending for a troubled game. The waving goodbye to her R2 unit was pretty sad.

@LinkRazr

The goodbye to the droid and sitting down in the grass as the world ended got me pretty good :*(

I actually have a shirt that this reminds me of, where a guy and his dog are sitting together watching the sun explode.

I spent 4 years playing TFC with a clan of 12 guys. It's sad when things come to an end but thankfully in the world of gaming there's always something new and those you've met online may continue to enjoy new worlds with you. Thanks for the video.

I used to feel sad about the end of SWG, but it doesn't deserve any pity. It dug its own grave. I was a loyal fan for a long time. I stuck through SO many changes to the game, as it got worse and worse. Finally, I couldn't take any more and left. Many, many Star Wars did the same.

DON'T COMPLETELY CHANGE A GAME THAT PEOPLE LIKE. One big overhaul? *Sigh* ok, people can muddle through that. But changing the base game and the way everything works 3, 4, 5 times +? How can you expect the game NOT to fail? Seriously! Who thinks completely changing the fundamentals of a game that people like and are paying for, multiple times, is going to win over or even keep your existing player base?

To those of us who played the game, this is a very sad moment. Like many others, I enjoyed this game prior to the core changes that submitted it to inevitable failure, and in its prime, I cannot think of a game that would best it even today, so many years later. I had some really good times and I don't think I go a day without thinking of some of the great people I met and fun moments I had. I played on the Scylla server and was recruited into a great guild called "Legions of Emperia" so if any of you old friends see this, it's Roguetoad27 here!

@Zurrafax I know what you mean man. It was just special in a way other mmos aren't. I think it was the incredible openness both in the geography, gameplay styles, and adventure structuring. Maybe it's from the pain of losing them, but after 5 years in WoW I've never made friends like i did on WoW. Doubtful anyone will know, but I was Rakarn Teklein on tempest, proud member of the Corellian Independence Arny

Genuinely sad to see it go. I quit it to play WoW instead, been playing that twice as long as I ever played swg, but it's always had a special place in my heart. Not sure exactly how it was when it ended, but there was nothing quite like it when I use to play.

Sad to say I don't think there ever will be. Gonna miss all the wonderful details it had like building entire cities, communities, to things like the very way you played. WoW might let you harvest some things, but you can't make your characters class a literal resource and manufacturing baron, or a professional dancer like SWG let you. Really gonna miss this game and the ideas it had bound up within itself.

I play some Warcraft and really, I spend all the time just thinking about some of the great stuff from Star Wars Galaxies. It's sad how many immerse gameplay elements have been lost in online role-playing games, I need not say how basic Warcraft is, many more are similar. There's no more common appearances of things like player housing and the astoundingly expansive crafting system in Star Wars Galaxies, and don't get me started with space, there was so much you could do just messing around up in the stars. The Old Republic, for example, looks fantastic, but gameplay wise, they just do not compare at all. I had always hoped for SWG 2, but that's never going to happen.

@Zurrafax I just found out today that they implemented in atmosphere flight with not but a loading screen to transition between space and ground. When I found out I had missed out on that I was disheartened, to say the least

I never played it, but I played SWTOR early access last night and it's pretty slick. If you are into MMO's and Star Wars. I'll probably play it for a few months before tiring of it.

As much as I enjoy newer MMOs, no game has ever been so dependent on players creating the world around them. With newer ones like WoW and TOR, you get to explore but only so much as the developers want you to. SWG, on the other hand, had a completely malleable world and you could be almost anything you wanted. I'm sure I'm not the only person here who remembers digging in the dirt for their first mineral deposits and then worked their way up to being an oil baron with vast fields of refineries. I was an Imperial and rebel players started messing with my business, so I hired a player group of bounty hunters to defend it. The gear grind of WoW is fun, but nothing compares to my memories of SWG before they changed it.

@JGGiant915 Yes! Exactly! Nothing has ever come close to that kind of experience. I remember once being part of a bounty hunter squad going after a Jedi back when being a Jedi was a huge deal. Since it wasn't a mission or whatever we didn't get a waypoint, we had to talk to people, find out where he lived , where he met wih his guild what bar he favored. Ill tell ya, it was a real special game. Don't think there will ever be anything quite like owning a monopoly on mineral harvesting

This is my problem with Online games... after some years, you practically lose them forever.

I prefer to (still) play the original Zelda :D

Words that struck me were "many of my friends don't have cell phones, and we can only communicate through SWG!"*sobs*

Annd that's where I feel no pity. Their priorities are all jacked. Before they exchange emails or some other vast form of connecting over the net. She chose YouTube...

What a yutz.

I played this game pretty consistently for about three months. It was the same time that I discovered Joystiq. I realized that MMOs would be the death of me as during those three months I became SUPER anti-social. So, when my time was up, I didn't renew. I'm still kinda sad to see the game end even though it's been almost 6-7 years since I played.

I remember people beaming about this back in high school. I was so deep into Diablo II: LoD that I couldn't think about paying money each month to play a game.

I got into WoW and I loved the people interaction and taking rag tag teams into instances and being leader/healer and overcoming odds. Raiding crushed that feeling (being a raid leader SUCKED).

If there's an MMO that can capture that "run 5~10 dudes against the odds" style gameplay without resulting in grind and dying to bosses for 8 hours because of 2 dumb people out of 40, someone should let me know!
