Skylanders wants to get your kids online with Spyro's Universe

Spyro is taking on the entire known universe with the beta launch of Skylanders: Spyro's Universe, a new MMO designed for youngsters (and the truly young at heart). Spyro's Universe includes customizable Skylands, mini-games that resemble other popular bird- and sheep-based titles, and a way to bring physical toys to life, in a virtual, not-really-alive-at-all sense.

The above video explains it all, and those interested can sign up their children, little sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews or cousins on the Spyro's Universe beta page.

"Bird" and "sheep"-based games?

I instantly thought of an Angry Birds/Catherine combo. I was a little grossed out at first, but then I was remembered the Catherine part. Then all was well. Wait, no--now im ...just confused.

Activision has the rights to at least 2 of the best franchises on the PS1 (Spyro and Crash) and completely ruined them and are somehow still trying to milk this one. If you buy anything from Activision, you just..... suck.

Poor Spyro, getting raped everywhere he goes..

If only Insomniac Games could some how buy that IP back and bring Spyro back to his former glory :(

I will contrast with those above: I've played around with it and it is quite fun, and we are getting some for our spawn. No, it isn't for hardcore gamers, but more and more I think they are holding back the fun in the industry because they can never be pleased with anything anymore.

Considering i played majority of the spyro games, and compared to insomniacs they sucked hardcore.. yeah.

But I'm totally a hardcore gaming holding the fun back, right?
