Angry? Why you hatin?

Star Trek and Star Wars go together like Oil and Water! Can't have a better mix than that!

Just kidding, I love both equally and I don't mind a little reference of one imbued into the other, that makes it even more awesome!

Star Wars is better for the lights and explosions

Star Trek is better for the real life lessons

My server is always full, so I mitigate this by playing Skyrim while I wait in the queue.

Some servers are showing queues of over an hour, and this is still -prelaunch-.

Some how WoW has 10 million subscribers and no queues. Bioware hasn't even hit 1 million and is buckling. Really makes me nervous.

"You've got a great game, shame no one can play it!"

@Clockw0rk Well Blizzard also threw out all their servers and replaced them with new ones after a couple years. That and they have a ton of servers, lots of them with low population, which is almost worse than having a queue.

I think the biggest issue was that people were forced to move to XYZ server for the pre-launch guild system. You couldn't pick a low pop server if your pre-launch guild had already been assigned to wherever. Not to mention a lot of these guilds are full of 100+ players that are playing non-stop. After a few weeks, it's likely people won't be on for 9 hours a day :P

@Clockw0rk

Just read Jynxcat's reply below.

Really, this is a bit like a "game of chicken" for any MMO game starting up; try to anticipate demand but not overdo it with unneeded empty servers (that cost money). WoW has had their queues, especially at launch. Only when they added more servers, did things become easier, but they do still get queues, especially after a new expansion.

@Space Cobra

I wasn't dismissing the fact that WoW used to have queues, I'm just saying that they don't have them anymore (that I've seen)

Honestly, SWTOR saw queues during the stress test weekends. They know there's a huge demand for the game and I certainly hope they have enough servers for everyone to log in come launch day. But the fact that there are queues right now, in pre-launch, worries me. And that whole 'assigning guilds to a server' thing is part of that.

According to "The Instance: TOR edition", they slapped several of the largest guilds together on one server. Goon Squad, AIE, etc, basically forcing a high population environment. What's going to happen when, speculatively, a few hundred people from those guilds can't log in because the server is too crowded?

They had better have some sort of contingency plan. Either new servers waiting to be turned on until they see launch day numbers, and/or free transfer to lower population servers so people aren't forced to queue or reroll to play the game.

Blizzard had been making multiplayer games like Warcraft and StarCraft for years...

Bioware has never made a multiplayer game.

Network programming and embedded systems (Xbox) programming are two different things. Likely what you're seeing here is a company that knows absolutely nothing about networking (BioWare), and another that cuts every corner possible (EA) trying to make one of the hardest pieces of software you can make.

I predict failure, if for no other reason than because it's EA.

Server queues are gonna happen with an MMO launch. They're just not gonna make a lot of extra servers in the first month of the game because a lot of those people won't be around after 30 days. Once that happens then they're already looking at consolidating servers or having servers with populations too low.

It's always better to limit supply and look popular than to have it look like the game's empty.

They're worse on some servers than others. My server is apparently the unofficial Oceanic server. So, we have a ton of Australian players, and our queue is usually 2 hours while the rest of the West Coast servers are at like 25-45 minutes.

This is no real different than a launch of a new expansion on WoW with the main PVP servers. After awhile less people will be playing for 9 hours at a time, and I'd assume they will loosen the server max players a wee bit.

"bioware looking into queues" that has to be the biggest understatement of the year, half the severs have 20 min waits anytime after 6pm. "Looking into" should be "we are adding more hardware to our clusters before launch tonight"

There is no such thing as a "manageable and reasonable" queue to play a game you are paying a monthly fee for. Anybody who puts up with that crap is a moron.

Actually, anyone who buys a game on origin period is a moron, but that's beside the point...

had to wait for 5 minutes last night. A couple days ago the wait time was 15 minutes. Feel really bad for the people with 1+ hour queue times.

I'm not complaining NOW, because I'm on free time (early access), but come tomorrow overly long queue times on my dime are going to be, like, not cool, man.

I don't doubt it's hard to launch a huge MMO but EA are notorious for stinging on their servers to make sure they don't spend a cent over

50 minutes sitting on line to play on my Clans server. I think the problem lies in the West Coast servers being shared with Oceanic players. :/
