Sega discounts select PSN, iOS, XBLA games for the holidays

This time of year, you can count on two things: long lines anywhere you can purchase goods and/or services outside of your home, and sales at those capitals of consumerism. Sega's hitching itself to the sales star now by slashing prices on its digital wares across PSN, XBLA and iOS starting this week.

PSN's lineup includes healthily discounted classics, added savings for PlayStation Plus subscribers and a smattering of newer stuff on the cheap until January 3: Daytona USA, Sega Rally Arcade, Sonic Adventure, Renegade Ops and more. On the iOS side, classic titles make up the majority of what's on sale for $0.99; Golden Axe 2 and 3, Chu Chu Rocket, Streets of Rage 2 and 3, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and Sega's newest iOS game, Brick People, are on sale until January 9.

Xbox Live Arcade users get the least amount of variety -- only Renegade Ops and After Burner Climax are on sale. You can download each at their reduced price of 800 MS Points ($10) and 400 MS Points ($5) respectively until January 2.

What they didn't say is that Sonic CD is actually on sale right now. It really costs $15.

Renegade Ops is showing as 600MP on my account.

This is why iOS is crushing. I saw that picture and thought, "Wow, I can get Sonic for 99 cents on PSN? That's an awesome sale!" NOPE. That's on iOS. On PSN, it's $6.99. I would've bought Renegade Ops on sight if it was a better sale than just reducing it to $11.99. That's a good deal, considering the normal price, but it's still not an impulse buy.

Sales can be awesome. Steam sales show how it's done. Slash prices dramatically and I'll be more willing to buy a ton of stuff I probably wouldn't have bought otherwise.

Sega I'd be more hyped to hear that you pulled Sonic 4 from every digital store rather than discounting it.

That's garbage that Daytona USA isn't on sale on 360 as well. I really want that game!

I wonder why only two games are on sale for XBL while PSN gets more titles from Sega discounted? I would have expected for each console to get the same treatment when it comes the sale.

Yeah this is faaar from the biggest sale ever. Hmph.

Too bad there aren't more games on sale on XBLA, but Renegade Ops and Sonic CD (if it is, indeed, at sale price right now) are the only ones I really care about anyway. Sold.

Can't wait for tomorrow.

FYI - Sale prices for PSN start Tuesday 12.20, in case you are wanting to buy them now they are not on sale till tomorrow.

God, when are they going to make a Streets of Rage 4? That series was the shit back in the day.

Fighting Force was supposed to Streets of Rage 4, I guess that's the closest we could get to a 3D SOR game.

@Art84 Spikeout is the spiritual successor to SoR.
