Japanese users of Sony's curvy Tablet S have received an update (translated) that should come in handy for all those PlayStation games. The tablet now offers support for DualShock 3 controllers, though they must first be synced with a USB adapter cable -- sold separately.
The dual-screened Tablet P, unfortunately, remains shackled to the screen-smudging tyranny of virtual buttons.

Very nice.
...So does anyone have a hint as to why Tablet P doesn't get support?

On screen controls are horrible. I don't know how anyone could play a game like that.

It's actually not to bad. the tablet is wide enough to not cause a lot of problems compared to virtual buttons on a smartphone.

Yeah! So instead of PSP, you can now carry a tablet, a gamepad and a cable!

@darkilya The cable is just for the first time you sync the controller to it, otherwise a PS3 nearby could also detect it.. When I switch PS3 controllers from one PS3 to another you have to connect it with the cable first...
just connect, turn on controller, remove cable, done!

My initial thought was that they added rumble support to a big, square tablet .

Although not a feature that everyone would use, its great to have it there.
Not sure if this tablet can, but if it could connect to your TV it would be nice way to play your old Playstation games.

This is a killer feature for me! I hate on-screen controls. This definitely pushes the S to the top of my tablet list.

Those controls look horrid. I own a xperia play because I loath on screen controls.

So this is the future of the PlayStation brand? You could theoretically just hook these tablets up to a TV, sync a controller, and bam! No more need for a PS3 or Vita or PSP.

Time for Microsoft and Apple to capitalize on this idea, but Apple doesn't make game controllers... So just Microsoft then.

You have to buy a separate adapter cable for it to work?? That doesn't sound like Sony at all.

I have one here in the US and I got the update and it works great.

This was put in the US update a week or two ago. Very, very simple to perform the one-time initial sync with a micro-to-mini USB cable. After that, all wireless. It controls your entire tablet without having to touch it and you can use the ps3 add-on keyboard (or any Bluetooth keyboard or mouse for that matter) for additional ease.

Those L/R 1/2 buttons are freaking ridiculous.

I would love this feature on an iPad . I think the OnLive controller works in a similar way.
