SSX takes path less traveled, delayed two weeks
29
EA broke our hearts today, delaying SSX, most recently intended as a Valentine's Day gift, by a couple extra weeks. SSX Creative Director Todd Batty notes the team decided to take the time to give the game a "final bit of polish." It will cruise in on February 28 and March 2 in North America and "the rest of the world," respectively.
"Over the course of more than 10 years of making games I have not worked on a single project where our team did not wish, coming down the home stretch, that we could have just a bit more time," wrote Batty on the game's official site. "There is a reason why Tricky and SSX3 are still among the highest rated games of all time, and it is because even playing them today they still stand the test of time. Our goal from Day 1 was to re-launch this amazing franchise with a new SSX game that could live up to that legacy."
This is the second delay for the game, adding an extra month of time on the ride up the mountain. On the sunny side, now we can all focus our attention on our significant others on V-Day.

I say, "take your time." Looks good so far, don't screw it up to meet a premature deadline.

Seriously, screw deadlines, they may make publishers happy but all they do is hurt the product. I think it was Shigeru Miyamoto who said (and I'm paraphrasing here) "People will forget if a game was late, they won't forget if it was bad." Now, DNF is probably an exception to this (I doubt people will actually remember the quality of the game 10 years down the line, but we'll all remember the dev time), but still, would you rather have a middling game now, or a great game later?

Reading comprehension fail.
"Respectively" means NA 2/28/2012 and Rest of World 3/2/2012.

When I first saw it, I was kinda disappointed that it was just 2 weeks before my birthday, and now... YEAH!

Oh so it's going to take an extra 2 weeks for this game to carve its way into stores? Got it.

Yeah but Twisted Metal is still supposed to come out on Valentine's, so PS3 owners will be ignoring their significant others still :P

I didn't want to drop $120 for two games in one day but I would of. I never owned any of the SSX's but I really can't wait for this game. Usually multiplatform games don't tickle my fantasy but this game does in many ways.
I am kind of glad one of them got pushed back and Twisted Metal already got pushed back so I happy it is SSX.

Would've preferred this at the start of winter rather than the end, but oh well

I'm fine with a delay. As long as they get it right and more on par with 3 and Tricky and not those other two games that won't be mentioned.

Shame because the end of February is too crowded as it is I'll be getting a vita then not long to mass effect 3 looks like it'll be a summer buy for me if the ratings are good whereas I would have bought it day one otherwise

I guess SSX will be the only thing not coming early on Valentines Day...

This makes me sad. This game is definitely my Most Anticipated Game of 2012 so far. But oh well. There's a legitimate reason for the delay and I can't argue with them wanting to make the game as good as it can be.

No problem; I'm definitely planning on getting this one on release but I've got more than enough to tide me over in the meantime. If they put the extra time to good use then everyone will be happier.

Given that we just had the annual winter avalanche, I'm thinking we've all got some pretty sizable backlogs to play through, hell, since Mass Effect 3 is coming up to top it off, I'd honestly be ok with waiting an few months on top of this if they need that time to make sure this game lives up to Tricky and 3.

Who else grew up with SSX and can't wait for a good refresh? I'm hoping this is like SSX Tricky, over the top with Uber Tricks, characters, the maps, and the music. I never get tired of the Tricky song.

They said in an interview they're going to make a GOTY/Tricky edition, so I'm going to wait for that.

Or is jealous that SSX is probably a much easier game to develop, manage and test.

Yah, guys, we can now spend all our time and effort on Valentines Day to focus on our significant others!
Assuming your significant other is into mass-murdering clowns with flaming heads that drive ice cream trucks. If not, well, their bad.
