CyberConnect2 working on another .hack game

CyberConnect2 is busy. In addition to Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Whatever, Asura's Wrath, parts of SoulCalibur V, and a .hack movie, the company is working on a new .hack game. The latest Famitsu (via Andriasang) reveals a new game in the faux-MMO franchise is on the way, with more details to come following the movie's release on January 21.

In an interview with the magazine, CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama said to expect a more photorealistic look than previous anime-style .hack games. A character resembling .hack//GU protagonist Haseyo reportedly appears in the included screenshots. There's no information on platforms or release date yet, but at least now you know you'll be able to immerse yourself in the world of The World once again.

There actually was an online .Hack game being worked on. Coincidentally it was also called ".Hack Fragment", but the game never left Japan and it was canceled.

That's pretty sweet, I just hope it comes out for 360 as well.

Excellent. The .hack series was one of the few things that I really got into on my PS2, and has always been one of those series that I enjoyed where others didn't. I really liked .hack G.U.

I WILL buy a PS3 for this game series.

Dude really? Way to skim over the article. They are WORKING on the listed games still, and last I checked Solatorobo has been out for a bit already.

I read that part already, not quite that blind there. I'm still irritated at how the one in charge of previewing Solatorobo made subtle hints that practically says, "Hey, look, furry game! It's shit because of that."

I'm actually very excited to hear this .. I haven't really been excited much over news for games lately but this..THIS.. it makes me excited for a good future.. Now hopefully it isn't for PS Vita or NDS or even wii.. We need a new good RPG for the PS3 .. I mean sure we've got white knight chronicles , dark souls , etc etc.. But tbh most of those bore me.

Really? Another .hack? I would love to see their talents put to use on something more relevant or perhaps a new IP.

I want CyberConnect2 to finish up development on Mega Man Legends 3! I would lose my freaking mind if that were to happen.

While I like .hack, I'm going to have to agree that I'd much rather they wrap up MML3 before working on anything else.

If I could get a promise out of Capcom that sales of Asura's Wrath would help drive interest in further partnership between the two companies, I might consider buying it-- assuming I trust Capcom enough not to break that promise.

That's nice. I'd be more excited if they'd brought over the last one they made .hack//Link. Since Namco likes to pick and choose which ones they localize, I'll not hold my breath for this one either.

I never really got into the .hack series as a kid. I guess ill take a look now that ive got a PS2.

That screen is from the movie, not the game.

I missed out on the .hack series on the ps2 wish they bring it to the playstation store for I can see what I was missing out on.

I played the first 2 dot hack games. Never got a chance to buy the others and they are hard to find now. I hope they release an HD remake on PS3 one day. The movie sounds great. Is it live action or animated though?

Still upset that .hack was essentially one game broken up into four bits.

I'm ashamed to say that I still haven't beaten the original 4 games. I need to finish them; it's a really cool concept, executed very well.

And I got my copies after a price drop (and with my then-employee discount at Blockbuster) so the 4 retail copy thing didn't bother me too much. ;-)
