I guess not as many people are waiting for the redesign as I would have thought.

@GrizzlyDietrich

The system in its current state is fine. Its no bigger then my DSi, which is the perfect size for travel cause it fits in my backpacks front compartment. Sure, the add-ons will get ugly, but at the same time, I grew up with the Game Boy, So I'm more used to these things then others.

@GrizzlyDietrich rar, why wait for the redesign when so many great games are coming out? And by the time the redesign comes out, you'll have gotten over spending that $200 for a 3DS.

@jph89 uhhhhhh, battery life? One of my fav things about the DS lite was the ability outta it without charging. Also, they're definitely gonna add a second nub built in.

@jph89 Aside from the already pointed out issue of Battery Life, I don't actually think the system needs a redesign, but, and this is also a response to someone downthread wondering why people always post this sort of thing on Nintendo articles, the simple fact it Nintendo will release a redesign, it will be better, and it'll be out within the next twelve months, more than likely announced at E3.

I bought the original GBA, then bought SP, then they brought out the Micro and I was like, "really bro?"

I bought the original DS, then I bought a Lite. Then they brought out the DSi, and the DSiXL. That right there is what ruined it for me.

The SP and the DS Lite were both simply revisions, and in my opinion they're both two of the best product redesigns of the past decade. The DSi, however, added new capabilities and content. What I mean is that even if I play the same game on a GBA and an SP, or on a DS or a Lite, there is no difference in the experience. Conceivably though, I could receive a better experience from the DSi.

As a result, I can no longer trust Nintendo that the 3DS is actually the final product in the 3DS line. I am simply afraid that Nintendo no longer does Revisions, they make new systems.

I've heard zilch about a 3DS redesign. None of my colleagues have heard of it either, and they're the guys-in-the-know.

What I expect to see is a bundled second analogue stick at retail-level. A reliance on a second nub is _not going to happen_.

Then your "guys-in-the-know" aren't very useful. I believe one of the Nintendo executives stated before that there probably won't be a redesign, namely because you just can't get any smaller than the 3DS is.

(total bs, though. there's always room for redesign in my book and redesigning never neccessarily means they're making it smaller)

@DekuTree Problem with that is, most of those games are remakes. I've played those before.

Reasonably priced with a Mario game, that's how you sell consoles, Nintendo.

@NathanDTS I don't understand why people always post this on Nintendo articles despite every company revising their consoles.

(Sure I've seen it on a couple Vita articles, but the majority fall back to Nintendo.)

Also, if everyone did wait for said revision, the console wouldn't sell and would be deemed a failure, therefore they wouldn't bother with a revision.

And do the doom-mongers still wish to predict the fall of Nintendo?

People just needed to have the patience to wait for Christmas. 3DS was always going to sell well with 2 Mario and a Zelda game available.

It had a slow start, eventually built a solid library and sales started picking up.

This is a surprise to people who forget every console launch the moment a blockbuster comes out. Which is 99% of gamers.

I'm entirely happy with my 3DS. Yeah the lineup could be better but there are enough interesting titles down the pipe at the moment to not really care. Furthermore, the battery life is often grossly exaggerated. To me, it's not extraordinarily different than the earlier PSPs (Which again, could be better but it's not some catastrophic deal-breaker).

@RickGhastly I figure if I can remove it from the charger before I leave home and it's still alive when I get back, it has enough battery power.

Exactly. The original DS's battery life may've been amazing, but it hasn't driven me to alcoholism to drop the 3DS on its cradle every night before going to bed (opposed to doing that every 3-4 days). Its battery life has yet to personally inconvenience me in any way, and that's all that matters.

I bought 2 3ds as gifts glad it's doing well in it's native region. I guess some hot import games are gonna be coming out.

3DS doesn't play import games. It is region specific. Unless that has nothing to do with what you just said and then just ignore me.

I hope the next mario feels more like a console version instead of another New Super Mario bros game.

I mean, those are great, but it's time to get a new feel out on the handhelds. Hopefully next holiday season as this was obviously a rush job (a perfectly good and adequate one) to help boost the system.

Wishlist:
Super Mario 64 style game
Super Mario World 2 that isn't Yoshi's Island and I'd actually like it to be sprites instead of updated engine.

What I'll end up buying:
Super Mario Galaxy type game and I'd have to like it because I still got what I asked for and a lot of people seem to adore the series. (I just simply enjoyed it and moved on)

I thought Super Mario 3D Land was great and I just finished 5 star-ing it, but I would love a Mario 64-style game for the 3DS more than about anything else I can think of.

Did you play 3D Land? It has a feel that is completely it's own. It's like a cross between the New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy types of gameplay. It's astounding.

At which point in the game does it feel like that? And yes I played it. I wouldn't comment on how it felt if I didn't. I didn't beat it yet though, so again, at which point does it feel that way for you? Maybe I just didn't get far enough.

Even though it's 3D the levels are still quite linear so it still feels heavily in the vein of New Super Mario bros to me more than anything else. Like New Super Mario Bros 3, really.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I just want something different next time.

I agree that Mario 3DS feels more like NSMB than Mario 64. But I don't think the Galaxy games feel like Mario 64, either. I want a return to gigantic open levels where most of the stars are always accessible.

I don't even own a retail 3DS and my Sony and Microsoft game libraries outnumber my Nintendo one by 2x. So I'm not ~entirely~ sure where you're getting your info from.

Good to know that there's only one other good game on it (Mario Kart) so I don't have to spend too much money on games :D lol (JK! I'm sure... Star Fox is fun... I mean I know its fun, i've played it already, and cave story too!)

Makes sense. I'm still to get a retail 3DS but I really enjoyed my time on Mario 3D Land. Hands down the most fun I've had on a portable game, and I fully expect a WiiU download port as a launch title.

For a doomed company, they sure seem to look undoomed-like. Unless selling millions of copies of hardware and software is the first sign of doom? When Wii-U comes out, then Nintendo will be REALLY doomed... especially if they sell a few mllion systems in 9 months, like the 3DS has.
