Gran Turismo 5 'XL Edition' pops up on retailer sites

We're going to go out on a limb and assume that Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition, a mysterious new version of GT5 that's recently turned up on Amazon, Newegg and Buy, isn't a DLC-packed Game of the Year-esque compilation re-release, but rather a literally extra-large version of the original. Bigger cars, bigger tracks, bigger disc, bigger box ... it probably even requires an extra-large PlayStation 3 to play it.

If you're a market analyst looking to make safe predictions, we guess you could infer that GT5 XL Edition is actually the stateside title for Japan's upcoming Gran Turismo 5 Spec II rerelease, but we prefer living on the edge and thinking outside of the box -- until Polyphony Digital makes an official announcement, of course, at which point all knowledge of this post will be disavowed.

XL...a, extra large update for extra large customers?

the reason i bought gt5 was to play local arcade mode with friends. WHY does the arcade mode only have like 20 cars. Its such bull, it should have all the cars available already in a neat menu like gt4 did.

I'm just gonna guess and say it's so that you have a reason to play the actual game.

@gordogg24p The "actual" game is what i make it out to be. I just want to drive the cars not have to plow through hundreds of hours trying to unlock them.It especially sucks that it doesnt allow you to transfer a save with the cars already unlocked for the people who share my position.

I hate that type of thing. every shooter does a similar thing with private matches. You can only use the guns you unlock in public matches. I already spent $60 I shouldn't have to play 60 days worth of time to unlock the weapons I want.

It's weird that Sony thinks that 'XL' would appeal to western audiences more that 'spec II'.

Actually, that's not weird at all it makes perfect sense.

It's XL because this re-release has all of the updates which clocks in over 2GB. It would take a new player too damn long to start the game up. Even with a good net speed, it would take a while.

i'm buying mine tomorrow for $19.99 at walmart ( Boxing Day Sale ) i can't wait any longer !

i wonder how many gb's it takes up now after updates. last time i had the game it was around 6gbs. but now updates and DLC. hmmm anyone know?

It must be the GT5 game + the DLC i think. GT5 is brilliant & has got even better over time :P

@RealityCheck2013 There's nowhere near enough DLC to warrant a new release with it added in. A few cars, tracks and paint colors? Not happening.
