Good news: the best Japanese role-playing game you've never played is coming to smartphones, in English no less! Previously available only on the PSP, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky – along with other games in the Legend of Heroes Series – is being ported to smartphones in both Japan and North America by Aeria Games, reports Siliconera.
Presumably, the deal covers iPhone and Android devices. Siliconera adds that the ports will be optimized for mobile devices, and will take advantage of online and social features. We've contacted XSEED, which published Trails in the Sky in North America, to find out whether or not it is involved with the smartphone publishing deal.

Aeria Games...Now that's a name I haven't heard in a while. I might actually try this out if the price is right.

PSP is dead in the West.
PSP is cranking out the masterpieces and fan favorites in Japan.
There's such an imbalance here it's not even funny.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. I love my PSP but I have been playing nothing but Japanese imports lately (fortunately my Japanese is OK...and slowly getting better since I'm getting lot's of practice). I would say that it is *the* system to own if you are interesting in Japanese games. But it's totally dead in the west.
It's great to see Trails in the Sky expand to other platforms, though, because these games are really, really good and people need to actually play them.

I played with TitS the other day and it made me feel good.
Not really - not the game, anyway - but isn't it funny they let that one slide? I mean, really... how do you not notice?

I'm presently *floored* by how perfect that was. I did not make that connection with the game's name.

I think this is a great idea, and hopefully it will bring more attention to the series and more fans... then I hope we will get the rest of the Trails series! And hopefully soon :)

Man, I really need to get around to playing that game. I've put about 3 hours into it, which is clearly not enough.

Great news to see more games coming to smartphones, especially "real" games. IMO, I feel that the Xperia Play should have been the focus of Sony, not the Vita. : 0

In my opinion dedicated gaming handhelds will be much better for full title games than phones for a while longer.

The sad truth is that there is huge disparity between RPGs published on iOS as opposed to Android. I'm mainly referring to Japanese games such as Final Fantasy however it's discouraging you have gems like Bards Tale available only on iOS. I even have an iPhone. I hate being tied down to a platform because its the only one which offers the games I like. Give me a few rpg gems on Windows Phone and/or Android and I may jump ship. People with Android phones need to spend more on paid apps or else iOS will always have the best games.

Xseed has stated on Twitter that they are not involved...that just killed my enthusiasm completely.
There is a ton of text in these games and a good translation is essential. Xseed's translation of the first game was top-notch, but I fear Aeria is going to farm this out to the lowest bidder.

Great game on the PSP, good news for IOS owners.
Btw - Trails in the Sky recent got a European release at a very good price, so anyone with a PSP lying around over here has one less excuse to dust of their Sony handheld for one final hurrah!
