Anyone get the feeling this will come out on the next console generation when there is a built-in micro-transaction model?

Why would it? The graphics aren't that heavy on it and like Sweenish said, the current generation of consoles handles microtransactions quite well.

My feelings on them is another matter entirely.

@sweenish @arcaria Hmm.. I guess I mean, a console that is designed from the ground up with them in mind. I don't see the PS3/360 being ready for Blizzard's whole 'item house'. I'm having trouble thinking of an example that is handled 'quite well'. I check out the Playstation Store update each week, and there are pages and pages of .99 cent downloads for random JRPGs!

They should put credit card readers in the next gen of consoles. Just swipe your card to buy that $9.99 sword off the RMAH.

You are correct adding an in game store like Diablo III is setting up maybe beyond the scope of current generation on live services. It is more complex than DLC purchases.

I think they still remember the pain that was starcraft: ghost.

I'm sure they're working on it, but this time they won't announce it until they're sure that it will actually hit shelves. if it never reaches that point, it can be silently canned.

I wonder why Blizzard never decided to release WoW on consoles? They like money and putting games on consoles = more money, as much as the PC needs all the exclusives it can muster.

@nerdydesi1

Did you ever played WoW?

If you would you'd know it would be unplayable with a controller.

Diablo 3 would be weird with a controller for Area of Effect spells, so unless a mastermind at Blizzard manage to implement mechanics that works perfectly with every action you can do, a console port will never happen.

@rezhoner

AoE spells are easy because they are broad. Besides, just Google "wow with a controller". Tons of people already do. You can find fairly large groups of people playing just about any PC game with controllers.

@rezhoner Not just AoE spells. One thing people dont consider is that to attack enemies, you click them. Have fun switching targets from one side of the screen to the other, efficiently on a controller. Nothing they can do on a console controller can come anywhere close. This is a huge problem they have mentioned as the main reason they are not 100% on console versions. Enemies will pop up out of no where from a direction completely different than the one you are targeting. I can see a "target closest" enemy thing, and such but it's still crap that way. Sometimes you don't want to target the closest either, like an AoE attack you want to target middle. If it was free aiming like on PC it would be terrible trying to just turn around unless they had some hotkey that changes you to "Camera" mode and "battle" mode. which would then slow the gameplay a ton and make it not very diablo-like at all.

And to the guy saying it's not an intensive game...it's not all about graphics. The game has some nice physics as well. And the game is all about destroying dozens, sometimes hundreds of monsters in just a minute or less. Body parts , loot, ect ect would be insane to process and render even with those graphics, on a console..unless they lower the enemy numbers and such. Main issue with consoles is they have (Basically) no ram. Whatever console build they have now, definitely far weaker than the PC version. I'm sure Blizzard will make it "work" but it will be far from a true Diablo experience.

@Vidikron Yeah they can play WoW with a controller. But competitively they'd be terrible due to lack of buttons. But that's an MMO. Different issues with each game being on console

@Kougeru Torchlight seemed to do OK with the restrictions of a console - did you demo it to see how it holds up to your argument?

If any one played Torchlight you can see how Diablo III can work on a console. I am looking forward to the announcement because I would rather play the game on a console at this point.

@spid I feel that the only way i'll be playing this game its on console, cause the PC version it's gonna come with the crappy always connected DRM system. If torchlight works fine on console i don't see why Diablo III wouldn't. The graphics are not mind blowing and a console can handle it fine.

Blizzard is probably one of the few gaming companies who has the kind of capital to use on trying to build an infrastructure and then abandon it if it just can't work, without being screwed.
