Sonic sale today on Xbox Live
30
The ninth day of Xbox Marketplace holiday deals rings in several Sonic the Hedgehog discounts. The blue mammal's escapades in Sonic 4 and Sonic Adventure are 320 MSP ($4) each, a 60 percent savings, and his Genesis games are down 60 percent, at 160 MSP ($2) apiece.
The discounts are only available today, so run and catch 'em before they're gone -- just don't run like an idiotic Sonic.

Can anyone tell me if Sonic 4 is worth 4 bucks?

Play the demo. Yeah, maybe you saw that response coming, but I would definitely heed those words. You'll know whether you have the capacity to enjoy the game or not once you've experienced the slightly-off physics. I don't think it's too bad, just not incredible.

It's the worst 2D Sonic game Sega have made.

Just get Sonic CD. It's a much better game, and it's sitting around the same price as 4. If you just have to buy a 2D Sonic game, just get CD. There's literally no reason to settle for 4.

Huh, voted down for the truth? Go look at all the other 2D, dyed in the wool Sonic games. They're all great. Then there's this.

I'd say Sonic 4 is finally at an appropriate price when marked down to a mere 4 dollars.
(Full disclosure: My dumb ass paid 800 points for it the second time it went on sale, unaware it would perma-drop to 800 shortly afterward)

I was also unaware Sega would get into the habit of discounting Sonic games almost every f-ing month

The guy who drew the original dumb running sonic is awesome. You've probably heard of him, (Zac Gorman), or you've probably seen some of his art. http://magicalgametime.com/
I love his work!

Well prepare to get pissed, since the leaked sale list from a few days back has been 100% accurate so far. I doubt it'll be any more than 25% though. :-T

Is it really news these days every time Penny Arcade gets involved in some flamewar shitstorm?

Given that it doesn't happen nearly as often as you would like to believe, yes.
It is news, and it is gaming related. I mean, last time PA actually got involved in something like this, a lawyer was disbarred. Terrible people in the industry need to be called out, and the more sites that report about it, the better.

I'd like to see someone prove that Penny Arcade was directly related to that disbarment.
As for the Ocean Marketing dispute, that's pretty damned silly, but it seems to have run its course anyway: http://kotaku.com/5871479/pr-trolling-ocean-stratagy-out-of-business-avenger-controller-maker-asks-for-forgiveness
I personally don't find it that compelling. PA dips its nose into drama, more at 11.

i'm sure they weren't, but the initial reply to my first post implied that PA is constantly stirring the pot, when they are not. the last time i remember PA openly declaring war was against jack thompson. that was not recent.
while PA probably didn't get him disbarred, all of the negative media and thompson's subsequent handling (all results of PA's escalated involvement. he'd obviously been reported on before, but it wasn't until PA made it personal that things started happening) of the situation didn't help him out. to say that PA had nothing to with it is just as dumb as saying that they were directly involved.
simply ignoring this story is just as wrong as you think covering it would be.

Well, honestly, I'm torn. Full disclosure, I loathe everything about PA, so I do speak with some bias. What did transpire is pretty terrible, and I feel bad for both the gentleman ripped to shreds by a marketing dimwit and the company that suffered as a result of said dimwit's actions, but I don't feel like the doofus deserves any more publicity than he's already had. And if the story is published, I don't think the Penny Arcade/PAX angle will hold any significance compared to the customer's conflict with the marketing guy.

Also, after reading a bit on Wikipedia to jog my memory, I will concede that Jack Thompson's interactions with the gentlemen of Penny Arcade did have an impact on his eventual disbarment, though only as much of one as his many other gaming-related shenanigans. Backing out of a proposed charitable act was certainly his most distasteful act, though, one they were good to make light of.

Sonic 4 was my biggest regret of any download only game. Terrible physics, plays nothing like the Genesis games. Sega should just give up on the blue hedgehog. All of my childhood memories have been raped again and again by countless bad sonic games. Save your money, and go buy Rayman Origins.
