Gears of War 3 'Season Pass,' props on sale today
45
Today's Xbox Live Marketplace holiday promotion covers Gears of War 3, with discounts on in-game content and at least one soon-to-be-discontinued Avatar prop.
The highlight of today's deals is the Gears of War 3 "Season Pass," which grants access to four DLC packs (two already available, two upcoming) for 1800 MSP ($22.50), which is 25 percent off the regular price. There's also a 50 percent discount on the "Gears 3 Skins Launch Collection," also priced today for 1800 MSP.
Microsoft will discontinue "gun-like Avatar items" from the Xbox Marketplace on January 1, 2012. This means here's your last chance to get the Gears of War Gold Lancer prop -- not only at a 50 percent discount of 160 MSP ($2) -- but, like, ever. The Gears Boomshield prop appears to be safe from delisting, and is also available for 160 MSP.

It's a shame the community is already half-dead, it was a fun few months.

@Alex Trebek I logged on today and around 7k people were on. How sad ):

That's still a hell of a lot more people than you're going to find in most Live games. Nothing sucks more butts than a game with a ton of online-only achievements and ZERO people online.
OK, completely deactivating said Live content sucks a little more butts. F U EA and an extra special F U to Def Jam Rapstar (I wanted to "turn my swag on")

Usually when I log in there's around 9 or 10k people playing TDM, another 5k playing KOTH, and some 300-500 people on the other playlists. Far from dead.

I just got the regular lancer prop. I'm just one of the few that doesn't find golden items appealing. Digital collectors item!

I feel so completely trolled, buying a bunch of MS points in preparation for the end of the year sale to find I don't want anything they have to offer

That's why I only buy MS points when I've already seen and decided on buying something.

Tempted on the season pass, but only because of Raam's Shadow and the possible other campaign content (one more chapter yet to come, isn't there?).
It seems there's a lot of discontent on the interwebz among Gears fans lately. I don't think putting the Season Pass on sale before all of the content is even out will smooth things over with them...

I bought the Season Pass, and I'm happy with it. RAAM's Shadow is the standout part right now, and it was really damn fun. Since the Horde Command pack maps went free it's really just character skins and a few Horde upgrades. This sale is a pretty damn good deal, it's only a bit more than Shadow alone, and you'll get two more DLC's when they come out.

I once purchased a game full price, which was discounted a few days later. I asked Microsoft to refund the difference, they didn't even return my email.
Bottom line, I rarely ever purchase games/DLC for full price anymore, and this is a prime example. I was very close to buying the Gears Seasons Pass for full price, but decided to hold off, and I'm glad I did. Having said that, I'm still not purchasing this pass - the content so far just doesn't seem to justify even 1800 points. The single player DLC looked cool, but I'll just wait til it's inevitably 400 MS points - my Gears 3 disc isn't going anywhere, I can wait.
Side note: The most recent purchase I made at full price - Duke Nukem Forevers "The Doctor Who Cloned Me" for 800 points - easily the best 800 points I've spent ALL YEAR. Lot's of great content - a full 5 hour single player campaign and 4 new multiplayer maps. Good stuff for $10.

@Axcalibur So you're upset because it went on sale? Would you expect Amazon to refund you the difference if an item you bought became a lightning deal? It's not like it was a permanent price drop, usually it's just a one-three day sale.

Look, it's nobody's fault but your own that you bought it when you did. That is such an immature mentality. Here's a tip: next time, don't mention paying for anything related to Duke Nukem Forever if you aim to get any kind of respect around here.

Some places are generous when you make such a request, so it never hurts to ask. Demanding a reimbursement is a different matter, of course.
I'd be upset about my email being ignored too, though on the other hand I may not be surprised...

I'm not upset all. I learned from my mistake; I purchased something for full price on Xbox Live and a few days later it went cheap. My point was that I'm extremely selective when it comes to purchasing wares on PSN or XBLA.
My comments were less to do with Gears of War DLC and more to do with the whole full price/discount situation on these platforms.

Ugh, you're pathetic. Insulting someone because they enjoy a game that received some bad press and reviews. It was a "side note", seperate from my primary point because it was a good opportunity to recommend the DLC to other fans of the game, as many or as few as their might be.
As for the point of my post, read the reply I gave to manbearchef - that will hopefully clarify my points to those who didn't quite understand in the first place.

Breaking news, in a sad attempt at sarcastic humour, you missed the point of my post - try reading again, and then read my reply to manbearchef for further clarification.
I've also never seen a sale on Nintendo's platforms (in terms of digital downloads). So, even in the realm of gaming - you are not 100% correct.

Son of a bitch this community turns into a greater shitpile by the day. Look at the comments for this purple luchadore loser and it becomes very apparent his skull has turned into a penis head. Sigh...

LOL, I did just that, looked at slybeasts previous posts (here and in other articles) and realized how insignificant he really is. His comments rarely carry any weight or substance, they're usually just insults or bragging about his pirating ways. It's pathetic really; spends all day trolling around acting tough. He's definitely a few shades of stupid.

Actually, you're the only idiot who made any comments that were offensive, everyone else either didn't understand the topic or just shared their perspective.
Do us a favour and learn to read and COMPREHEND before commenting on peoples posts - it makes you look a little less like a douche bag and saves the rest of us the hassle of having to wade through your crap comments.

Do you say the same thing whenever any other DLC goes on sale? How about when a game gets a price drop? Do those publishers/developers also piss on the fans that bought those things Day 1 too?

I could understand feeling shafted if it went on sale only a few weeks after it came out, but 3 months, that seems a little silly.

As far as I can tell props aren't anywhere near as visible as they were in the previous dashboard. My portal gun is still equipped but I can't see it anywhere. I'm glad I never paid money for any of this stuff.
@munebeam Yeah they really dropped the ball on promos this year. Last year they had Portal for $5, Splosion Man for $2, Guardian of Light for $5. It was the closest they ever came to Steam quality deals.
Way too much focus on DLC, which IMO needs to be permanently reduced in price or made free after a certain point. It's one thing to have a $10 DLC episode when a game is $60. When it's a year old and can be purchased for $10-$15, that hour or two long episode now costs as much as the entire game, making it laughably overpriced.

No wonder you're still working for an allowance, then. I'm sure it took all year for you to scrape up the change for Gears and the Season Pass. Did you have to ask your parents to buy the M-rated game for you, or were your parents mercilessly slaughtered when someone realized what an insipid shitstain they unleashed?
OK, for real - no more responses from me regarding this doofus. Look at his comment history, he's completely transparent. That's all folks!

this is a good deal. Raam is 15 by itself and the next dlc will be a new mp mode and five additional maps. You won't get that deal with Call of Crappy.
