Way back in December last year, Minecraft developer Notch participated in a 48-hour game-programming competition, and he live-streamed the whole thing. He made a Harvest Moon-inspired zombie game, tentatively titled Minicraft. He has renamed that game MiniTale, with more info to come here and here.
Update: It's the sequel to Minicraft that Notch has renamed MiniTale. We apologize for the small confusion.

Why don't you guys cover the rest of the Dare participants?

@beanninja Because people click on links like "Notch's blablablabla". They don't click on "Unknown person creates game." I'm not saying its fair or logical, but it's the same reason there was extensive coverage for a royal wedding but not anything for any other wedding. News coverage is all about covering what generates interest.

Seriously what's next? He takes a dump of gold and the internet goes crazy for him?

@Castiel
I think anyone who defecates gold will get at least /some/ media attention.

Please no, Joystiq. This kind of incessant non-newsery is Kotaku territory.

Naming it outside of the 48-hour period is cheating.

By 'snagged' those domains he obviously meant he threw one of the rolls of money they're using as loo roll at the domain owners.

How does one go about making a Minecraft sequel?

Well. About 6 months after Minecraft's official release date. They announce Minecraft 2 and when everyone gets upset because it's too soon, they decide to calm everyone down by promising to "keep supporting" the original Minecraft (even though it's the exact same game.. with less stuff)

This article is wrong. Minitale is the title of the sequel to Minicraft. Not Minicraft itself.

After buying my kid a Wii for Xmas, and seeing him spend equal amounts of time on it and the Xbox (between Super Mario Bros and Batman: Arkham City), something struck me. 2D, 8-Bit and 16-Bit graphics games seem to be more than just a nostalgic vessel. The wild success of games like Minecraft (et al) prove that. It's the musical equivalent of choosing vinyl over a digital download. Some people swear the limitations of the delivery device actually ENHANCE their experience during playtime. Who am I to argue? The good times I've had traversing the blocky, 2D, sidescrolling epics like Castlevania, Contra, and G&G rival the best frag-filled death matches I've endured in COD and Unreal in my mind.
