The ongoing legal battle between Bethesda and Interplay regarding the Fallout MMO is rumored to have reached a critical turning point. According to Fallout fan site Duck and Cover, the two companies have reached a settlement. Specifics of the settlement are reportedly set to be revealed later this month.
Joystiq is unable to confirm whether or not the settlement has actually taken place, though the rumor appears to be in line with what we've heard from our own sources.
In October, Bethesda tried -- and failed -- to impose a preliminary injunction on Interplay, which allowed the latter to continue work on the beleaguered project. Will the Fallout MMO manage to make its proposed late 2012 launch window? We should have an answer soon enough.

Best case scenario, Interplay somehow gets this MMO out the door. How good could it possibly be? I just can't believe a company with one foot in the grave is going to compete in a genre where blockbusters cost ~$400m to make.

Interplay is nothing now.
But I'd love it if someone would just finish the project. My life needs this.

As a Fallout fan I hate to say it, but this MMO will probably go free to play a few weeks after it's released. Most people will be playing MMOs like WoW, TOR or even Runescape, and a good amount of hardcore fallout fans already hate this game (although this happens with any new fallout game).
I think once the novelty of a Fallout MMO wears off, it'll go free to play for a while then sink back into obscurity. It's been in development for at least five years and we've still seen little more than a few pieces of concept art and a lot of lawsuits, I really don't think this game has much chance of succeeding I tell ya what.

If its not the classic isometric 2D style then there is no point. Basically we already have a Fallout Online with Fallen Earth.
I know there is a huge difference and there are many things that make the Fallout universe unique and memorable, but at the base of it, I just crave dudes shooting other dudes with leather and sporting equipment on.

Not sure how good this MMO can be when Interplay is practically bankrupt.

Even though I loved the original Fallout games back in the day, I don't have much faith in this.
It'd most likely be like if My Bloody Valentine finally made that comeback album just for everyone to wish they hadn't.

Bought Interplay (IPLY) stock at 4 cents. Holding steady at 7. Expect another bump.

As much as I love fallout, I don't think I'll have that sense of "Lone Wanderer" in Fallout 3 with so many other players walking back and forth between towns.
I remember walking from one side of the map to the other and meet barely any nonhostile humans.

@Dhexodus
So what you're saying is a lack of a player base and low subscriptions will even be explainable within the game's story? Because its bound to happen shortly after launch... :/

Bet they won't be putting out the MMO
and Bethesda will drop the lawsuit. Win for them, lose for us.
