2D fighter 'Phantom Breaker' on the way from publisher 7sixty

If you've been following 5pb's Japan-only Xbox fighting game Phantom Breaker, then, well, you're a bit ahead of us. Regardless, the 2D fighter will become a lot more accessible this year, when publisher 7sixty plans to localize it for release in North America. The Amazon page linked to by the publisher says it's due on January 31; however, it also says that SouthPeak is the publisher, so don't put too much stock in it. We're asking for more details.

Phantom Breaker is about a fighting tournament in Tokyo held by "Phantom," which promises to grant wishes to the winner. This attracts the attention of a variety of familiar anime-style characters, along with guests from other 5pb games like Steins;Gate and Chaos;Head Noah -- which would mean something if you lived in Japan, we assure you.

Sounds an awful lot like the plot of Fate/Stay Night but I'm sure they ripped the plot from somewhere else too. Colour me interested.

North Americans get this but not Arcana Heart 3? Where is the justice?!

Those pictures looks quite generic.

Been playing the demo on my Japanese account, the graphics are super anime looking and has a pretty in depth combo system. I enjoyed the little I played of it

I got my fix of 2d fighter with blazblue and KXIII.

I'm been interested in this since it was released in Japan, looking forward to it!

Hopefully they will release the demo for Americans on Xbox Live, since they did in Japan.

I read on another site that 7sixty is a branch of SouthPeak, so Amazon saying that SouthPeak is releasing the game is sort of correct.

Steins;Gate is the best anime of all time. So... you mentioned Steins;Gate?

...the best of all time? That's kind of a stretch. Than AKIRA, Giant Robo, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Lupin the Third, et al?

I've seen all of those. Bebop used to be my favorite, Akira is a mess (honestly, it's a technically broken film), Evangelion has an ending thats there because they ran out of budget, Lupin the Third is really good but really dated, Trigun is excellent in some ways. In some ways the show is a masterpiece. But It's ridden with major flaws and imperfections. There are whole episodes in that show that are pointless.

So I stand by my opinion that Steins;Gate can't be beat. It has the best character development I have ever seen in an anime, some of the best characters, crazy twists and turns, and an exceptionally well done love story. Yea. Steins;Gate. Watch it now.

I can agree on the latter paragraph's examples of why Steins;Gate is worth viewing, but I guess I personally can't put it on nearly as high of a pedestal in terms of overall worth.

In fact, I shouldn't have listed NGE earlier for the same reason I didn't list a series like DragonBall, One Piece, Bleach, Pokemon, etc. While they're generally known or "heard of"; their appeal falls because of any number of things like: animation quality, cliched character design or even story(...the "collect'em all again!, cloning/malicious science, I must get stronger!, milk-the-cash cow-dry type of plots are quite old now).

*gasp* Steins;Gate and Chaos;Head?!?!

For anyone who hasn't watched, google Steins;Gate and watch the anime. It's 24 eps long. It deals with the idea of time travel, a random inventor, and CERN(inventors of the world wide web). It's one of those things that you can tell is inspired by real life events, or at least the obvious realization that CERN is working on things far beyond the general public's wildest dreams.

It will blow your mind.

I have yet to finish Chaos;Head, but I heard it's incredibly disappointing. I bought the box set and everything =/

I'm liking it so far but I went in with zero expectations, so maybe that's why some of the people I've talked to about it said it was disappointing. The way they spoke about it made it seem like they were expecting a gore fest on par with Elfen Lied or Gantz.

The fundamental problem with Chaos;Head is that it's an adaptation of a visual novel that at its core deals with visual novels. It would be like making an anime out of Metal Gear Solid 2 or a book out of Adaptation; while it may be interesting or even exciting to watch, it just falls flat because it's missing intended central themes relevant to a particular medium.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. This game looks very... plain, but that part interests me.

I would buy this just for the Makise Kurisu.

In terms of story and impact, Steins;Gate is both an amazing visual novel and anime.

Why are two Hards fighting?
