Gotham City Impostors delayed to February

Monolith's Bats vs. Jokerz shooter, Gotham City Impostors, was originally due for release on digital distribution services by January 10. It's been pushed to February, according to a quick missive from publisher Warner Bros. The title is in beta now.

The real Batman would show up on time. Just saying.

This seems to be one faux-superhero shootout game worth waiting for. Our preview lauded its "feel factor," "quick and responsive" controls, and "powerful and diverse" arsenal.

Media Alert: Gotham City Impostors to launch in February
Today Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment confirmed that the launch of Gotham City Impostors has been moved to February.

Gotham City Impostors is a download only title that will be available in the Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®Network and Windows PC. Fans can go to www.GothamCityImpostors.com for updates and news.

Gotham City Impostors is an original download-only first-person shooter where up to 12 players battle for control of an unhinged Gotham City overrun by Impostors inspired by the DC Comics characters Batman and The Joker. Gotham City Impostors is an online multiplayer game unlike any other, giving players the opportunity to engage in unconventional urban warfare as they personalize their own Impostors. Gamers will create their very own version of the Bats or the Jokerz characters using unprecedented customization options including insane costumes, homemade gadgets and a wide range of traditional and inventive weapons. The game will feature maps and modes inspired by DC Comics' Batman license.

Real Batman makes you wait too, you know. I had to wait an extra month, and then an extra week to get Arkham City on PC.

You also have to wait, like, 5 minutes for thugs to walk into your traps.

@EliminatorZigma Sonic Batarang. If that doesn't work, you gotta get creative to manipulate guys around the map, or put your traps in different places. But don't sit passive and wait. It's designed to be a very aggressive stealth system, hence the name "predator."

Still pissed I got snubbed for the beta.

Silly me, I guess I should have realized the closed beta should have been open to everyone so as to not hurt the feelings of the self-entitled masses that we deal with.

This makes me feel funny.

Being optimistic here, I guess this gives my friends and I a bit more time to decide which console to get it for...

So what makes the Joker team any different from Joker's actual goons?

I'd rather have a delay than a rushed $60 beta that's in need of 4,000 patches.

This game is a slap in the face to batman fans. The DC universe isn't supposed to be silly and crap like this. Quit wasting time making shovelware and give me a Beyond game.

@Baagawk it's all in fun I have played the beta and I like the way they spoofed Batman & Joker don't have to take it so serious. I don't mind the delay it will give them time to polish the gameplay.

To clarify, a *better* BATMAN BEYOND game would be welcomed. That garbage on the PS1/N64 was good enough for a coaster at best.

We all want a Batman Beyond revival, none moreso than me. But as someone who played in the beta, I'm telling you this game's awesome. If you are really that miffed about it just make a character that looks like Rerry or one of the Jokerz.

My only concern is the lack of any sort of 1 player campaign at all. I know those are afterthoughts anyways in FPS's of this nature, but I'd really enjoy seeing what they could come up with. Still hoping they'll surprise us with something, but I doubt it.

I love Batman. I read the comics. There's a lot of amazing, serious story in there. But you can't take it that way all the time. There's humor and goof and just plain silliness too. You can't take a guy who dresses up in a costume, or a kid doing the same thing in tights too seriously, all the time. We just got an awesome, "serious" batman game that did a lot of great fanservice. We can have a fun, goofy Batman game too.

5 days from launch though?

I hope it doesn't come out as a great game otherwise Joystiq will pass it up next year on its list.

Hmm. Well, I can't afford to buy it this month anyway, so it's just as well for me. I've had my eye on this one for a while; I hope it lives up to the hype. With any luck, they'll release a timely demo so we can try before we buy. Those 6-month-after-the-fact demos are a load of crap...

XBLA demos go side-by-side with the actual release, by necessity. So you'll get to try it at launch.

alright, so I neglected to consider the fact you may not be nabbing it for XBLA, but I'd say by virtue of those XBLA requirements you're very likely to get a timely demo for whatever platform.

Wait, does the code that came with arkham city work if I haven't used it?

The only thing this game is impersonating is a quality title. Looks like straight garbage.

Downloaded the beta, my friend played one match and I thought it looked really fun, he really liked it and i'll get to play it tomorrow. I can understand how it looks like Garbage but its got more personality and style than lets say a COD game's online.

The gadgets and the maps look cool too and class based shooters are always neat :) I for one like it if only for its creativity since I can't really give it a good opinion until I play it myself.

It's actually pretty damn fun. It's a unique class-based shooter with lots of new ideas. Reminds me of TF2. It just needs some more polish, really.

Probably a good thing. The beta was fun, and there were a lot of great ideas, but there are a lot of bugs and issues that they need to work out before release.
