Windows Phone leaks new games, sounds like a personal problem
29
The Windows Phone is carrying on quietly with its existence, launching update 7.5 and recently letting slip a list of games coming to Xbox Live on Windows Phone, including Age of Zombies, Bullet Asylum, geoDefense Swarm and Tamagotchi. These titles are already available on Android and iOS devices, except for Bullet Asylum, which was announced for Windows Phone, Xbox 360 and PC last last year, and whose trailer you can watch above.
In related Windows Phone news, Ska Studios' Z0MB1ES (on teh ph0ne) dropped for version 7.5 yesterday. For $2.99 it includes I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1, the ENDL3SS Z0MB1ES mode and a new title from Ska, Time Viking. Looks like it's time to change your "number of reasons to buy Windows Phone" to three.

What's with the WP7 hate Jess?

Wow, the Joystiq editors sure don't like WP7. I'm sure this opinion is based on extended use of the platform.

Wow, Jessica. I can't tell if you're trying to be funny or are trying to be edgy, but neither are working out for you. We get it. You don't like WP7. So, why not stop writing about it?

Popularity has nothing to do with performance though, it has to do with marketing and buzz. Since MS is "the man" it will never get a college kid following - Which is the largest demographic for smart phones.
Having used Blackberry, iOS, Android, and WP7 - Have to say WP7 is my favorite. Smooth, responsive, no fragmentation of versions, and LIVE integration is sweet. The only real downside is some of the software being pay versus free on other devices. For example, having paid $3 for Angry Birds instead of having it for free with adds. If I'm crying about $3 being too much to pay for dozens of hours of entertainment though, I'm really a scrooge then.
On topic though, this looks like a nice Missle Command meets Geometry Wars. Very interesting.

Bullet Asylum looks kinda neat. But I've got a year left on my current contract and no real reason to switch.

gotta agree with the other posters, seems like youve never touched a windows phone if youre going to diss it so lamely.

I love my Verizon Trophy personally and I have alot of friends wanting to get the newer phones when they start shipping LTE versions.
I may be wrong but I peg her as an iPhone user, and I've noticed alot of iPhone users hate on WP7 just to make sure iOS doesn't become the 3rd most popular/relevant mobile OS.
That being said, I look forward to these games, and the expansion of the platform in the future. Just think of a "remote play"-like feature in the Xbox Companion app...just sayin'

Agree with the rest of the comments.
While I'm always happy to see WP7 news on this site, do you guys think you could post at least one article about WP7 that doesn't contain a subtle or blatant shot at it?
I mean, you just lost your two funniest writers. Taking potshots at a small but dedicated fan base doesn't seem like an ideal move.

Why do I have the feeling like this person has never used a windows phone ? anyway i am glad to see that joystiq writers give every platform a chance and are not the least bit biased.

I was surprised to see a story about a WP7 game on Joystiq, but then I read the article. I have an HD7 and I love it. I had an iPhone and an Android phone. I loved the stability and reliability of apps on the iOS but hated the UI. On Android I loved the UI but due to the fragmentation of the Android OS, some apps worked fine while others didn't. On WP7 I get the benefits of both.
Honestly, I would have choose whatever platform suited me the best. I'm a consumer, it's my right. Brand loyality is dumb to me, it's just a damn phone.
"Hey dying and starving kids of Africa, stop worrying about what you're going to eat! iPhones are SOOO much better than Windows!"
First world problems. Eh, whatever, I'm sure you got a chuckle out of some loyal Apple or Android user Jessica.

No, not really, like I said it's just a damn phone. It suits my tastes and needs at the moment. I just don't see the point of writing an article about games being released on said platforms and then find a way to bash it.
Then again, I guess I don't really see the point in me commenting about said article to begin with or replying to my comment within the post. Maybe we're both just bored. Either way, I guess we both just lost at the internet.

Considering the coverage that Windows Phones and Androids get on Joystiq I can only assume that no one uses anything other than iOS at Joysitq central.
Game Dev Story, Minecraft, Spirit or Fieldrunners for 10c on Android? Who cares?
Random indie iOS game on sale? Front page news!

I completely missed the Zombies release. It has now been purchased. Nice of them to release a decently priced xbox live title on WP7.

I really love that no matter what smartphone OS someone might dare crack jokes about, people jump out of the woodwork all upset and trying to defend it.

@davidqxp I wrote a reply to this but I think Joystiq ate it so I'm just going to do the cliff notes this time:
That's fine, people can get offended or upset by whatever they want. I find it amusing since I remember when people lambasted apple fanboys for the same thing. I don't understand getting so upset about jokes over a phone, but people absolutely have the prerogative to do so if they choose.

The problem is that she is ALWAYS takign unecessary stabs at WP7 and it;s users. It was funny at first, but now it's become just plain pathetic and borders on "LOL WP7 SUX" levels of bad. If it was funny and well thought out while being a light jab, cool. But she does it every time and normally with the same general tone. I dunno about you, but i get sick of hearing the same joke told over and over. Changing a few words around won't change the punchline.

When has anyone at joystiq taken a pot shot at Android or iOS for existing? That's what she's doing here. It's not criticism of a lack of feature, clunky OS, or anything else. It's just a joke... because.
I find nothing witty or funny about that, which is why I read joystiq to start with.

I have a WP7 and absolutely love it and I do feel it gets a lot of rather unnecessary and unjustified hate from people, especially people who use iOS devices.
It's impossible to argue that WP7 doesn't have flaws, but I think the first generation of WP7 devices are leaps and bounds beyond products Apple launches with. Not to say that's necessarily a fair judgement in the smartphone market, where Apple broke ground to allow a device like WP7 to even exist, but it doesn't have a lot of the same pitfalls Apple devices fall into early and often.
My biggest problem with Apple devices is always the inevitability that your incredibly expensive purchase is going to be surpassed within a year and completely obsolete in 2. I think it's nothing short of insanity that people get excited to drop so much cash yearly on the next iterative Apple product.

I think Jess has 2 jobs. One as a Joystiq writer, and one as a barista. With her attitude towards a mobile OS as solid as WP7, that's the vibe I'm being given.

The thing is... Android and iOS both now have the hardware to run some better games, right?
And how many games is that exactly?
By the time either platform builds up a real library of games that are worthy of running on dual or quad core processors, WP7 inevitably would have caught up by then, hardware wise as well.
I know there's things like GTA3... but I got to be honest, even if they could port GTA3 TODAY onto WP7, I still don't want it. I played it 10 years ago and I don't buy smartphones to play 10 year old games.
silly Angry Birds is still number 1 across all platforms, regardless of what hardware you have. Think about it.

I've never touched a Windows Phone and I love my iPhone, but I think Windows Phone is pretty cool. My only real gripe is my attachment to my own library of iOS games, otherwise i'd totally give Windows Phone a spin.
