Take notice, Microsoft... if you price downloadable content competitively, people will buy more of it.

*eyes $40 on demand titles that are $20 or less at most physical retailers*

You do notice they never actually give you how much they have sold right?

If the previous you sold 1 and the next year you sold 2 you have increased sales by 100%.

Yes, they sold 7 games this year. 100% increase for 7 years, starting with zero sold.

"Meanwhile Steam doubled the amount of content delivered in 2011 vs. 2010, serving over 780 Petabytes of data"

Yeah it's not like they give us an idea of how high their sales figures are. No siree. No way they could be successful with only 780 Petabytes of content moved across their servers (up from 390 in 2010, in case you can't do math).

If I am not mistaken once you buy a game you can download it all you want. Of course they just say we sold X number of games instead of saying how much data they used up. That would seem to be a more obvious number to give out.

I am sure Steam is successful, but what do they have to hide by not giving out the number? If they are going to beat their chest about this and that why not just give a straight number.

I think that the ones who should take notice are all the companies, who keep saying "pc is a dying platform full of dirty pirates". also many indy developers that only releases their games for consoles or mobiles should take in account the fact that the p.c. market is a s strong as ever, just ask the guys of bastion, oh!!! and somebody tell the I am alive guys that some companies are winning money instead of bitching..

Excellent point, I haven't spent much time looking at VC content so I didn't think of that.

To Acosta2... I'm not saying MS has poor sales, I'm saying I would have purchased more On Demand content if I couldn't regularly nab those same games on disc for half price or better. I'd much rather install the games and have them on the HDD for quick access than switch out older game discs constantly.

I know Steam has brought me back to computer gaming to an extent, and is one of the reasons I'm replacing my aging laptop with a game-worthy desktop this year.

Well, i would much rather spend 30 bucks on 5 or 7 games on steam as opposed to a 30 dollar DLC season pass which then that also makes me a smart buyer too.

Can I make a small request?

If you ever reference Valve, TF2, or anything related, and put a TF2 picture up, can you PLEASE stop using beta pictures?

It's a minor thing, but every website does this. Whenever TF2 is mentioned, and it's not a direct story on hats or anything else that requires a direct visual aid, beta screenshots are used. And I don't know why, because screenshots are not hard to find.

Seeing pictures of the Soldier wearing a grey trenchcoat, the Engineer wearing grey overhauls, the Spy running around with a tranquilzer gun, the Medic using a needle, or the old muzzle flashes being used to represent the modern game make TF2 fans sad.

On a story-related note, stats like these just show that companies who think they can compete with Steam with their own platform just have no real chance. It would take a massive, MASSIVE change in what they do, or a major !@#-up by Valve in order for someone to even gain one-third the success they have.

Ah, the inevitable downvoting.

Let's see every gaming site use screenshots that's over 6 years old from an unfinished beta from a game you play every single time they mention the game, and see how you feel.

How about showing the XBox360 dashboard v1.0, or the PSN network while it was still in development every time either is mentioned?

Somewhat related to Big Picture Mode: I'd like to see them try to integrate something like Twitch.TV with the overlay, so you could stream video of whatever game you're playing out to friends or the entire world.

Sarcasm is fun, tired old phrases that are neither witty or snarky are just tired old phrases.

Express your happiness at PC gaming and Steam doing well (and 3DS outperforming the tech world's expectations), not your bitterness at the naysayers for being naysayers.

I think every time the current consoles start aging, and PC technology starts lapping them, you'll see a resurgence in PC gaming.

But then again, Steam and MMOs basically ARE the PC market, as far as I'm concerned.

Uh, err, every single console that comes out is already lapped several times over by the pc hardware market.

A mid-range ATI card 4 years ago is still more powerful than what's in the XBox360. I don't see your phrasing there.

Actually, I meant in regards to games I play with a 360 controller like Skyrim or Need for Speed. Tried playing TF2 with mouse/keyboard last night. It kind of worked, but not as good as it does when I'm playing on my 17" monitor. *shrug*

So would that essentially be like the OnLive console but with your Steam account?

If so, I would buy it on day one. Steam has totally managed to win me over in these past few months, and now that I have a controller for my PC, my PS3 is collecting dust :)
