Report: Activision scoops up blackops2.com
104
Activision, by proxy, has bought BlackOps2.com. Fusible did the detective work on this, which posits Activision bought up Black Ops domains last year -- up to Black Ops 6 -- through brand protection company MarkMonitor. Black Ops 2 domains were missing from the previous list, but it appears that's being rectified.
Now, none of this guarantees that Black Ops 2 is on the way as this year's Call of Duty, but it does mean that MarkMonitor is under orders to protect the brand for the future.
Call of Duty: Black Ops had a record-breaking debut of $650 million in sales during its first week at retail in 2010, which it held for one year until Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 crushed that with $775 million.

This is alright. I actually really enjoyed the Black Ops campaign because it felt different to at least the Modern Warfares it was sandwiched in between. You usually played as the one main character and when you didn't it was all built around his story, as opposed to being a bit all over the place in the Modern Warfare games. Would prefer them to try something new but if they do another Black Ops before that, I can think of worse ideas.
Like a new Modern Warfare.

I know I rant and rave about how much I hate COD now..and it's mainly out of anger because I despise Activision and what they've done to COD.
But I would honestly start buying COD games again(Last I played was Black Ops)if they make it for PC then port it to console or make PC separate and not have matchmaking.
PC get's the short end of a very splintery stick when it comes to Activision and it's tiresome.
Give me:
Mod Tools
A better engine
NO MATCHMAKING
Fully dedicated servers
And lots of game options
And I would buy it..
You 360/PS3 players need to realize how terrible this franchise is on PC now..and PC COD4 is the reason COD is so damn popular..now we get a backseat. Sad...

Black Ops was new. I hope they do something with it different though the next time. Something like bring us back to the cold war and let us fight on several different fronts that way. :D
They really have the option to explore all kinds of different time lines with Black Ops, not to mention make new zombie modes for famous moments in history.
Can't Wait.

@The2ndofThe7th I wouldn't mind paying $15 for just zombie maps alone. I hated Escalation MP maps but the Zombie map that came with it was really fun

Yawn ¬_¬ Nothing to see here, just your annual Call of Duty.
Please Activision, at least try the futuristic space marine game you were thinking of a few years back. Its not original but its a hell of a lot different from the now drying up well of the MW and BO franchises -_-

*Sigh*... Still waiting for the day when a CoD game doesn't outsell its previous installment. Maybe that'll be the day we'll see the start of the franchises decline. I've barely dabbled into the games, and have only done so because my friends refuse to play anything else.

Well, at least I stopped buying CoD games for a certain time now. I got the games from first CoD to Modern Warfare 1. Since then: Not interested in it anymore.
Black Ops 2? Pass...

If Activision can get away with their current business model for CoD, why should they change it? We'd like to think that artists are in this business for more noble pursuits (innovation, creativity), but it is still business.
I'm not condoning what Activision has done with CoD (I pretty much abhor it), but there's financial merit and there's artistic merit. Which do you think carries more weight in a shareholder meeting?

I don't see the problem with people using their own money to buy a game that they enjoy. People need to stop hating on games just because customers continue to buy what they enjoy.

For some reason I enjoyed Black Ops more than other COD rehashes. I think the maps just really suited 4 player split screen, which is primarily what I used the game for. Oh, and I loved zombies mode. Standalone zombies game pls Treyarch, kthanks.

Treyarch's greatest achievement to date is adding split-screen for those of us who can't roll large with a 2 ps3/2 lcd set-up. Come to think of it, I've never seen anybody do this at their home or tried it yet myself.
It's made for a great year of hanging out at my friend's place on weekends.

So what they've bought a web site. This says nothing about the game. So before you all start player hating. Think. They might have a new engine, they might make a master piece. They might not. You, me or even activision, don't know. So stop hating a wait for the correct info. They might even not bring a new CoD till the new systems are announced.

I'm not excited in the least bit for a direct sequel to Black Ops, thus far the weakest of the Call of Duty bunch. I am guessing they're registering the domains for "blackops[something].com" for the fact that there are lots of customers I get who ask for "Black Ops 2" when what they really wanted was whatever game came after Black Ops... namely MW3.
Big sigh, I know. But hey, Activision needs to cover their bases.

Better than Modern Warfare 3, yes. Than Modern Warfare 2? No. MW2 was, still is, and probably always will be the best in the entire franchise.

@TraceurRyuk Part III I'm sure MW2 is critically and maybe even financially the best and most successful MW game, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for the first MW. I liked the slower pace of the multiplayer, but maybe that's because I played a lot of hardcore.

Not with some of the broken mechanics like dual 1887's, the commando + lightweight perks, or the OMA perk.

Mostly though, the fact that the game is really "killstreak warfare" instead of being modern warfare.

This pretty much proves that any creative energy left in these developers have been sucked dry from Activision's slave driving. Usually it went Modern Warfare then a new setting, ever since Call of Duty 4. The Modern Warfare games have always been better than the latter but they were fun time killers. I never thought I'd see them reuse a setting of one of the "filler games". Oh well, I'm sure I'm not gonna buy it, I was considering it if it was a cool new setting. Modern Warfare 3 was the first Call of Duty game I didn't buy and just flat out didn't like. I don't like Battlefield either. I need my FPS kick somehow... I loved Resistance 3 but it has limited replay value. I guess I have no choice but to see what Respawn comes up with.

I'd have to disagree personally, I had much more fun and much less frustration on MW than MW2.
Don't forget CoD2 as well! That was pretty bad-ass too.

Call of Duty 4 was great, but I think they took everything that made it great and vastly improved upon it in MW2. Yeah, Modern Warfare 2 had some issues but I thought the game was so good that you could still have a great time despite the issues. However, I agree that Call of Duty 4's experience was pretty much flawless.

I liked Black Ops more than World At World and MW2 when it came to the single player campaign. That's the last COD game I ever bought and have passed on MW3 due to it just being MW2 all over again. I might get MW3 when it drops to $30 or at least rent it. I'll probably get Black Ops 2 depending on what time period it takes place in.

I wish Treyarch did all the CoD games, they always seem more balanced, fun, and (dare I say it) innovative. I've sort of lost hope for IW, they did try and make MW3 better than MW2... But it's a far cry from the original...
Good setting, story was a bit wacko but I had a blast on the multiplayer, and the exclusion of Stopping Power (FINALLY) was great for letting players try new things, hope to see more good things from Treyarch, dont disappoint like IW!

I can say that I probably won't by anymore COD games. Blops story was good, but that was about it. I think that what some of the people here need to see is that a lot of the people complaining about lack of innovation on the part of the devs of COD were/are huge fans of what the series was. I don't think that it is unfair as a consumer to ask for fresh experiences from your purchases. Not the same thong over and over again. The only reason why Acti continues to pump them out is because people still want what they are giving. If they didn't, then they would change.
I personally think that the series has gone stale and does need to do something different. You may not agree, but my first COD love was WAW. The blood and gore was unlike any game I had played. Then I learned about MW, which was some of the most fun I ever had in MP. Plus the nuclear bomb scene was something that made my jaw literally drop in amazement! Then I played through the campaign of COD2 and loved it! So I continued to purchase the games until MW3 came out.
So, I have much love for the time that I spent with the series and look forward to the time they offer me a new experience, but if you don't demand it, then I doubt that it will happen. If you enjoy the series then get your game on, but I miss what the series used to be.

In my opinion - Black Ops had the best story of the franchise. So a direct sequel would be awesome.

It doesn't need to be a direct sequel per se.
I like the fact that they really could take the series anywhere they want since that's the whole premise behind the cold war...nobody except those involved really knows what happened in those times.

haha...the whole debacle with EA not being able to get SSX.com seems to be motivating them.
If there is a black ops 2, I hope Treyarch modifies the mw3 engine for it. They need to let go of whatever modified cod4 engine they've been using since W@W.

haha yeah right. Making a new engine would involved spending time and money. something they've shown they aren't willing to invest in this franchise, unless it comes to marketing.
