Silent Hill HD Collection delayed until March [update: Konami confirms]

Update: Konami confirmed the delay with Joystiq, and said, "[the] Silent Hill HD Collection release date has been changed. The game will now be released in March. We will be sending out definitive dates on all three Silent Hill games later this week." We'll let you know just as soon as we hear what those dates are.

Original post: Time means little in the limbo of Silent Hill, so too would seem to be the fate of the Silent Hill HD Collection, which several retail outlets have moved to a March launch date.

The mystery started unraveling yesterday when Amazon sent out notifications that the release date had been changed to March 6. Since then, GameFly, which lists dates based off publisher information, and GameStop have also switched launch dates to March 6.

We've contacted Konami for confirmation. The publisher previously slated the collection for last autumn, then shifted the date to January 24 last November.

Well that sucks.

We have plenty of games to play anyways. Going through Half Life 2 for the first time here!

I miss that feeling. Going through it for the... 10th or so time just doesn't have the same wow factor :(

I still don't understand how two games out of seven or eight is a 'collection'

I guess it's only the best games in the series and the ones developed by Konami and not Climax which developed Origins and Shattered Memories. The original Silent Hill should be included maybe the remake if it's possible to add kinect support and move support. I've never played SH3 before but would like for this collection to have SH4 included.

Well I hope they delayed it to add in SH4: The Room. I still can't understand why they left that game out of this collection. It may not be the best SH game but it still deserves to be there.

I enjoyed The Room quite a bit more than 3. Lots of neat game mechanics in that one.

@IslandLife I think that the reason they may have left out part 4 is because it was not originally intended to be a silent hill game. It was changed during production to help sales. Here's a quote from an interview with the developers:

"GW: So the series is getting larger, gaining more momentum, and was coming out on a yearly basis, right?

Akihiro Imamura: Well, keep in mind SH4 was not originally suppose to be a Silent Hill.

"Akira Yamaoka: We did see a significant increase in popularity after the first game and even more so after the second. Originally the intention was not to make SH3 a direct sequel to the first game. In fact, the scenario was completely different, but fans seemed to want to tie up some loose ends, so we tried that, even though some on the staff did not agree with the decission."

Regardless, this delay is a bummer, and yes, I wouldn't mind having an HD version of Part 4 as well!

Isn't like every Silent Hill game after two originally not supposed to have been a Silent Hill game? I could be wrong but I could swear I've heard that about other titles in the series, too.

@Cthulhupal I've always thought that SH4 was going to be a spin-off set in the same universe, with no more sequels made for Silent Hill, but was good enough that they made it a main game. Bearing in mind the same team that made SH2 made SH4.

I've never really understood the criticism of "well, it was never originally intended to be a Silent Hill game". So what?

as if Mass Effect 3 and MLB 12 weren't enough, now I've gotta get Silent Hill on the 6th too? Next stop poor-ville.

Don't forget Downpour comes out the next week. I won't have to worry about having nothing to play in March...

I have to think that Downpour will also see an adjustment. It would be really dumb of them to release the two so close together.

Wow, this and Downpour have been delayed. Oh well, at least they're making sure it comes out as best as it could... and I get a little more time to play all the sweet games that came out in 2011. :-)

Well this sucks, nothing for me to buy this month then.

Maybe they'll include more than 2 games and make this a real "Collection".

I noticed that it had shifted on Gamestop and Amazon. I was none too pleased. My wallet can't handle RE:ORC, SHHD, and then Downpour in the same month! My wife will be piiiiissssseeeedd!

They could have not pick a worst month to release this collection , if they tried .

Boo. This was supposed to be a birthday present to myself. :(

So.... I thought this was just for PS3. When did they decide it was going to be release multi-plat?

Any hope it's because they worked out the legal problems and can include Silent Hill 2's original dialogue track?

It must be to give them extra time to port the PC versions. I mean, er, "add surround".
