You'd think that Japan would be fresh out of monsters at this point, considering that they've been ruthlessly hunting them without rest since 2004, but that's not the case. In fact, it seems the monster birth rate is so high over there, that over a million blademasters and gunners have been recruited for the latest hunt.
Monster Hunter Tri-G has sold 1.08 million copies as of January 8, according to Andriasang, making it the first third-party release (and third 3DS title overall) to break the million-sold milestone in Japan. It is distinct from some other million-selling 3DS titles (Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land) in that it does not feature an Italian plumber, but rather focuses on monsters and the hunting thereof. Wait, isn't Mario technically a monster hunter as well? Maybe there is a common thread here.

Go go, Monster Hunter. Here is to hoping it has New Super Mario Brothers worthy legs. Here is to hoping for a localization, I imagine Nintendo will want in on this again, and the future Monster Hunter 4!
Also, Nintendo managed another 240k 3DS's.

Grats to capcom on hitting a million.
then again, this is pretty much free money with this franchise. Surprised it's not more multiplatform then it is.

It's actually been on practically every system, even the 360, PC and iOS. I think the only thing it hasn't been on yet is the Vita, and I think it's pretty safe to say that that'll be here before too long.

Why is this game not on the PSVita? It's been almost exclusively on Sony since the start and for some crazy reason it is not (launch or not) on Sony's new system!

@AllYourBAcesHigh There have been many theories. One being that now that Nintendo's handheld can handle the graphics of the Monster Hunter franchise, Capcom wants to put it exclusively on the great-selling handheld.
Another being that Nintendo are oh-so-crafty and offered some incentive for making the Monster Hunter franchise a (perhaps timed) exclusive.

Because this is Capcom we're talking about. They don't like the prospect of making an entirely new MH game so they're basically just re-wrapping the same game year after year. I mean, just look at the MH4 trailer to see how dated this series is starting to look.

I must have watched a different MH4 teaser, because I thought it looked really good. Graphically, Monster Hunter will always stay the same with a few bells and whistles added here and there, no matter on what platform. What's gonna keep the franchise afloat is the content they add with each release (new monsters, armor and weapons, etc.) and the challenges the higher level quests will bring.

@ColorblindMonk You mean the one where player is being chased by Rathalos right? It looked to me like some kind of "trailer" put together as a school project using the game's assets.
Mind you I was a big MH fan but I don't feel like investing the hours needed again for anything but an entirely new game.

Wow, 17 of the top 20 were Wii, 3DS, or DS games. Nintendo sure pulled a fast one on everybody.

Sooooo... now does everyone understand why Vita didn't have the stellar launch they were hoping for?

Monster Hunter is such an amazing game, I'll never ever stop playing it. I am sad about the 3ds only tho....Hopefully it's only a timed exclusive. But I think that's asking too much from Capcom. Seeing on how they have no idea how to market such a great game.

So THAT'S why the 3DS is selling! I had no idea a MH game was released...

That's about a third of a reason the 3DS is selling in Japan, if you take into account Nintendo's two million-sellers (mentioned in article). But yes. Certainly doesn't hurt.
Incidentally, personally I haven't even got Mario Kart yet because I decided to finish Mario Land first. Given how many times I got my arse handed to me by the world 6 boss today, that might be some time...

Good on ya, Capcom. This is the kind of news that makes me as proud as a Grandpa.

Here's to hoping that Capcom will remember that a Monster Hunter fanbase actually exists outside Japan.

I tried the Monster Hunter demo for the wii (my first experience with the series) and while I really liked the concept and the style and pretty much everything about it, the controls on the wii remote/nunchuck combo completely turned me off so i decided to pass
(I know I could've bought the classic controller game bundle but I just didnt)
But I'm assuming the controls were only back because of the controller I was using, yes? I think i'd be willing to give this game a try if it comes over to the US (if it already hasn't)

Monster Hunter Tri G hasn't been localized yet. However, I'd say go back and pick up Tri for the Wii. You can get the bundle for around $30 on Amazon right now and if you're only concern were the controls, the Classic Controller fixes that so well and the game plays like a dream with it.

Monster Hunter is the Skyrim of the 3DS...
The Vita wanted Monster Hunter to be the Skyrim of the Vita but then it took an arrow to the knee.

I'm happy to hear this. Now that Capcom made a nice fortune off this enhanced port which probably didn't cost that much to put together, maybe they can bring it outside of Japan, specifically the states. I know at least 4 friends that'll buy it on day one and others that we (the group I hunt with) may be able to coerce into buying it too.
