The-magicbox is reporting that its suppose to be a HD remake of the KZ1. But we'll just have to wait and see who's right.

PS2 Classics appeared back in October 2011 so I don't think it took too long for Killzone to appear on PSN. I never did beat it though but wouldn't mind buying it just to beat it. I know it's not as good as Killzone 2/3 in terms of control.

This game was no where near as good as the current iterations if i remember correctly you could not even jump during normal game-play. Most would argue why Sony chose to invest in this I.P. most likely because at the time it was their only real 1st party FPS.

@type2red I distinctly remember playing it and thinking, "This might be the worst FPS I have ever played."

That said, I loved Killzone 2. Killzone 3, not so much.

@type2red They were trying to get a good FPS to combat Halo, which was arguably the main reason why people bought a Xbox at the time.

Any guesses as to whether Sony will try for backwards-compatibility with the PS4? My launch PS3 can play my old copy of Killzone. Awesome feature, but it costs them all that potential revenue from reselling old-ass games.
I'm guessing that with more and more money from digital distribution, there will be zero incentive to include back-compat with the next console.
Then again, it's a nice selling point on the back of the box...

a good game? what?!

i'm probably one of the only people that had the patience to beat the original Killzone, but only because i broke my leg one summer and had nothing else to do but play games all day. it was a terrible, terrible game in almost every single way, and i can't for the life of me understand how anyone could say otherwise.

I would've love to see an HD remake of Killzone running on the Killzone 3 engine fixing the controls and updating the graphics.

Yeah, they especially need to tighten up the graphics on level 3!

And my mom said I'd never get anywhere playing these games...

@Arsenic13 most of the worthwhile games have already been remastered in hd , the only ones missing are the gta games , rachet & clank , and final fantasy 12. games like god of war , final fantasy x, splinter cell , silent hill , metal gear solid , devil may cry , jax and dexter , ect ,ect. i love killzone 2-3 , but the first one wasn't that great , back then it was because there weren't too many online fps for ps2 , and it wasn't easy to get into matches with friends. i guess if you never played it i would have played this long before killzone 2 and 3 came out because its no where near as good as those games.

Interesting. I missed out on this game completely last gen, and I'm debating whether or not to hunt down a physical copy to add to my collection or to just buy it on PSN.

Game's.... not that great.

Actually, in my opinion, it's pretty bad. Almost all FPS were horrid on the PS2 save Timesplitters (which was still better on the Xbox). Last gen FPS were all pretty gnarly.

agreed but the gen before that!

Turok 2, Golden Eye, DOOM 64, Perfect dark. You'd think they would've done better on systems with controls that actually work with an FPS lol

they did. it was called Halo, which introduced a control system that pretty much every other FPS game on consoles mimics to this day.

It's not awful but nowhere near great either. It's very grey, even more so than the sequel and since it lacks the detail and higher resolution of the sequel it's more of a problem here. Fun with the 4 different playable characters though. I should still have it around here somewhere...

Yeah I played it for nostalgia about 6 months ago on my ps2 and remembered how muddy and drab the color scheme is. Also either it was just how the game looked, or the way my regular tube tv showed it, but everything looked very...blurred and fuzzy. Not to mention the sniper rifle was always a pain in the ass to use! But of course fun when you mastered it!

I bought this for $22 new around the same month Killzone 2 released so i can play it first and then go into Killzone 2 i will say this .. it was horrible and seemed more boring too me i used cheats to complete it i was stuck in one area cause i had no idea what to do as i came to a dead end, but that is when i started with cheats ( also i found the characters move Incredibly slow )

I popped in Killzone 2 and i thought it was 10 times better and i enjoyed it more it was also faster passed then Killzone 1 now i own 3 but still have yet too play it but i will say this, lot of people give 3 grief BUT it can't be NO WHERE NEAR BAD as the first Killzone ( if anyone says you don't know till you played it ) well that may be true but i doubt they went backwards enough from killzone 2 to killzone 1 badishness.

It's interesting to check out for history, but like you, I couldn't take more than maybe 20 minutes of it before abandoning it for greener pastures.

Wtf? This was an epic game st the time it came out. The "halo killer" title was a misnomer given by sony, not guerilla the developer. I played this online for over two years until I got my ps3 (for kz2). Probably hasn't aged well, but the mp was fun as hell. Loved arcing 203's across the map, all weapons had secondary fire which is a lacking feature in modern fps.

yeah, I never played it online but the bot multiplayer and the alt-fires on the weapons were great. The ISA rifle somehow isn't as satisfying without the grenade launcher (or the punchy rate of fire). Killzone overall was a pretty naff game, especially compared to 2 and 3.

Buyer beware! I own this on PS2, and it is a sad excuse for a shooter. They let you choose which player to be to supposedly customize your gameplay experience, but every character except Rico is woefully weak and will probably get you killed.

Well I suppose I will be in the minority. I enjoyed Killzone when it came out, like the characters, the fact you could choose and change your character as your progressed through the game... once they joined your team. The characters we well developed for the type of game it was and the camaraderie was definitely established and came together at the end. And if the game was really that BAD they would not have bothered with continuing it to the next gen. Sony gave it a lot of faith and support. Good on them.

Its funny people gruped about K2 when it came out because they dropped the original characters and the ones they introduced were just bland and boring. Felt nothing for them. They were just typical FPS characters, very much like Halo and Gears. Boring. BUT the game was great, a step up in play and graphics, just wished I was playing the original four and could choose to play which one I would want as the game progressed. Definitely would have added replay value.

Have not picked up K3 but have played the demo and loved it. Hope the characters are better developed.

And yes, I only play the campaigns, not much for multiplayer, unless there is co-op in the campaign. That would be great.

nothing but blind fanboyism would allow someone to honestly say the characters in Killzone were better or in some way less generic than those in Halo.
