Dead Space 1 and 2 sliced down to $5 on Steam this weekend
25
Steam has taken the ol' plasma cutter to the price of the Dead Space series, offering one monster of a deal. This weekend you can pick up -- using telekinesis, preferably -- the original Dead Space or Dead Space 2 for five bucks each. You can use the money you've saved for some fresh underpants. You'll need them.

Kinda spastic how the Australian version works:
75% off:
Dead Space 1 normally $14.95 USD now $3.75 USD
Dead Space 2 normally $69.99 USD now $17.50 USD
Steam was so much better when they didn't localize pricing. It was $50 USD everywhere for most new PC games, now they realise they can charge more for users from Australia cause we pay $100 for our games. MW3 and Arkham City are the most expensive since Steam game i've ever seen at $99.99 USD which is our recommend retail price. While Skyrim is $89.99 USD and AC: Revelations is $79.99 USD. They just charge whatever they want. I wish they could have stuck with the US pricing instead of making it a little more in-line with our own local prices.

I don't know all the details for Steam gifting, but couldn't an American player (or someone with an American-based account) gift you the game in USD, then you just pay them the $5 back?

Nope. Those special edition ones come to about $120 - $150.
In defense tho, all our prices include all taxes and GST. Also id imagine that distributing a game to a far-away place like Australia to a relatively smaller gaming population would drive up the price too. For the US its a real case of buying in bulk to split the cost of distribution up between a lot more people.

Get these two amazing games now. I already had them but I decided to buy the pack to keep for trade at a later time.

They get all up in your head first with the continuous sounds around you and false crescendos.

I'm jealous of those who have yet to experience these games.

Isn't it weird how more people will buy things that cost less?
Microsoft still doesn't seem to get it with their "Games On Demand" from Xbox Live. Why pay for those at $20-$60 when I can get the same game on Amazon for much less? Red Dead Redemption is still $40 on Xbox Live, but Amazon had the Game of the Year version with all the DLC for only $30 last month.
Is it a convenience fee like how we have to pay Ticketmaster to print our own tickets? I buy so many games on Steam that I don't even know when I'll have time to play them all. They are doing it right.

more than likely, they have contract with the dealers that won't allow them to lower the prices. If Amazon buys 1 million copies of a game from MS for $25 it would be kind of crappy if MS started selling downloads for $5. Amazon would be stuck with all of those copies sitting on shelves.

Well, I get that ... and I'm not expecting $5 Dead Space on Xbox Live, but
Microsoft does seem to still sell their downloadable games a bit too high. Red Dead shouldn't still be $40. It came out in May, 2010.
Same thing goes for Xbox Live games on Windows Phone. "Plants vs. Zombies" is $4.99 on WP7, but it's $2.99 on iOS and Android. Microsoft charges more than they should.

I just finished Dead Space 1 on 360 last night for the second time. Been a good while, but non the less fantastic. These games deserve a purchase regardless of price! $5 each doesn't hurt though. ;)
