A Lannister always...turns up the brightness on their monitor.

Reading the first 3 books in this series put me in a really bad mental place last year that I've yet to pull myself out of. Still kinda wanna check out all this stuff, though.

Don't feel bad, it took me 2 weeks to pick up the book after the Red Wedding. I got half through book 4 when I heard who dies in dance with dragons. I'm done with the series. Fire and Ice is like a lover who starts out great, then punches you and promises it will be ok in the end. Every so often, when you feel comfortable and optimistic, you get royally abused until that moment when you decide enough is enough.

Games of Thrones is one of the few examples of a story that i actually enjoy watching play out so much that i would rather wait for each season of the HBO show than read the books and spoil all the crazy twists and turns. i do fully intend on reading every book once the show is done (or once HBO decides it's too expensive to keep making).
it's such an immersive fantasy world, the likes of which i have yet to encounter since...well, Lord of the Rings. but even still, Game of Thrones makes Lord of the Rings look like child's play.

Yea, I watched the first season before reading the first book, and it made the book less interesting, but the tv series was amazing.
Today I've got the 2nd book in the post so will read it first, then watch the tv series. It'll be the only way to judge which way gives most pleasure.
Either way - Peter Dinklage definitely deserved the Golden Globe he won.
Girl who plays Arya should also win 'best young actor' awards at some award shows.

It sucks that such culturally important literature will get turned into an average licensed game (probably). Every developer isn't Rocksteady studios and their licensed games are still very much the exception to the rule.
I know heaps of great IPs get their name dragged through the mud but Game of Thrones is special. I'll be playing Skyrim, just like I WON'T be reading the Elder Scrolls Novels.

You know what would be great? If they gave these games the ol' Witcher treatment and really put some effort into adapting a book into a game. I guess I can't know for certain whether this will be bad or not but if it is good I will be quite surprised.
