Saint's Row: The Third gives everyone CheapyD for free

It's not like THQ is going to fly the guy around the world so he can meet your family and stuff, but you will get to download the CAG proprietor in Saints Row: The Third soon, just as promised. And he'll be a free download!

So here's the scoop right from the man himself: Xbox 360 users will need to either purchase the Genkibowl VII DLC for 560 MS Points ($7) or download the free Genkibowl VII Viewer Pack; PS3 users can grab him from the free CheapyD DLC pack; Steam users will find him inside of a compatibility patch on January 17.

Now, there is one catch: Before you can hear Cheapy's hundreds of "unique lines and exclamations," you'll need to unlock Shaundie's ex-boyfriend's apartment in the campaign, right after the mission where you assault the armory. If you're past there, don't fret -- you'll be able to start saving Steelport citizens dozens and dozens of dollars on video games immediately.

What about us Onlive people? I "own" the game using Onlive and love playing it that way. I would sure love some CheapyD in my world!

i would imagine that onlive would use the same PC patches. So I don't see why not.

Not true. Online gets screwed constantly. Space Marine on onlive never once got patched.

@(Unverified) I also have the OnLive version of the game. I asked the Saints Row twitter account within seconds of their retweet of CheapyD announcing the news and they haven't responded.

I'm glad to see they're handling DLC much better this time with compatibility packs instead of only allowing people to play co-op together if they both paid for the exact same packs like in Saints Row 2.

Awesome! Although I'm more excited for the Genkibowl DLC. The Cheapy D character add on will be a nice bonus though. This was one of my favorite games of 2010!

How appropriate the DLC be so cheap.

CheapyD deserves his own game at this point. Something I could wait for a sale on.

So it seems their doing what Netherealms did with free dlc in the compatibility packs? Can we get some worthwhile free stuff? Maybe free cheats?

You can do DLC through them but it is sometimes (most times?) delayed. And as the other poster said, sometimes features are missing entirely. Saints Row has multiplayer but it is virtually impossible to play with a friend.

I'm actually not sure who Cheapy D is but I'm looking forward to "meeting" him. Hopefully the game gets some additional radio stations, too. It's pretty sparse in that regard.

As a long-time CAG, it's truly awesome to see Cheapy like this. Awesome stuff.

So us Xboxers who have bought the Season Pass get this, right? Or do we have to buy the DLC for full-price 560 MS points, which is a waste of points since we already bought the Season Pass?

@TheSecretMe - The DLC is exactly the same, regardless of whether you're getting it as part of the season pass or paying separately so yes, you'll get him either way.

In all honesty Cheapy D sounds like a gangster/rapper name to begin with. I just hope he yells out "Big ass chains!" when you're causing random mayhem.

@Notme2 You're not the only one. It would take an 2 page essay for me to fully show just how much content is missing compared to Saints Row 2 and all the terrible design problems.

Usually I laugh at disgruntled fans who hate the way their favorite series have gone. Now I fully sympathize with them. This game was not nearly worth $70 (including dlc).

This experience has made me extremely wary of purchasing new games day one. I know Thq is having some financial troubles but ripping your customers off is not the (ethical)solution. Never again will I buy another game from them until it's veeerrrrrrrrryyyyyy low price.

If you pause the game and hit Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, start ... Cheapy will shit his pants.

Then he'll tell you all about it.

I have a secret dream that they make a homie out of the AVGN. That would be awesome.

@Notme2 My save has something like 30 hours on it and I still have a bunch of side stuff to do. Sure, I remember putting more like 50 into GTA games but I also remember a lack of checkpoints and pacing issues. SR3 is the tightest, and possibly best, overall sandbox game experience that I've ever had.

I have a stack of other games that I want to get to. I'm perfectly happy having that really great 30 hours, which is pretty damn long, than suffer through some stuff that I don't like to wring out a few more hours.

Hmm 2-3 days? I put about 20hrs in and I only did a couple extra side mission outside of the introductory ones. I think it's a good length with a great quality/fun/value ratio per hour. But then again I wasn't expecting it to be Skyrim with 100+ hours of gameplay....
