New GT5 DLC lands Tuesday with Lamborghini and speed testing course
29
Most of us, in real life, must stay content with occasionally going 10 miles over the speed limit in our used 2004 Pontiac Sunfires. We'll never know the thrill of triple-digit speeds, or experience the bowel-shattering roar of an Italian V12 engine; the harsh reality of reality is precisely why games like Gran Turismo 5 exist.
This Tuesday, equal doses of commuter sensibility and murderous horsepower will be available in Car Pack 3, the latest $5.99 DLC bundle of bumpers for GT5. The pack includes the Lamborghini Aventador, the Aston Martin V12 Vantage, the endurance-tuned Jaguar XJR-9 LM, as well as the more sensible Mini Cooper S Countryman, all-electric Nisan Leaf and button-cute 1966 Volkswagen 1200.
In addition to the new whips, there's also a new course to test them on. Route X, available separately for $3.99, is a specially designed oval track with banked curves intended for speed testing. The track allows the user to measure their quarter-mile times, g-force and acceleration, so it'll be helpful for obsessive compulsives (read: us) who obsess over the tiniest of modification details.

I find it's more fun to enjoy my corners and work on apex as much as I can while driving rather than just wanting to go faster. Apexing those corners 5 over is safer (speeding ticket wise) than 10+ over on a straight away. And 'any' idiot can drive his/her car fast on a straight away. It takes way more skill to corner well. I can't tell you how many people have tailgated me on a straight away just to be left in the dust when the corners come into play.

@Spikey I wager the Sunfire would be more exciting.

@Granger Was wondering that myself. Ice had this game for almost a year now and have ever bought any of the DLC but it would suck for those are buying the XL version

As a guy who drives a Mini Clubman S and my wife driving a Countryman, I'm really appreciating all of the Mini love they're giving in this game.

@Breakdown
I've gone 120 in a newer Accord. Haven't reached a speed I felt scared with yet.. But then again, I've encountered hoards of other drivers almost sideswiping me in just the 7 years I've been driving, so I guess speed alone isn't scary when you're on a deserted road. Once you add that one guy who drives while texting, eating a burger, and singing with a broken headlight, any speed is scary

It's amazing how many people have managed to do triple digits and have real world racing skills when you read the "comments" for a racing game. Strange how no one ever admits to having real world box stacking skills at their place of employment when discussing Tetris...

You'd been surprised at how many times I've played tetris in my mind while stacking boxes.

Oh my god that car is sooooo sexy.
I wish the Japanese and Koreans made cars that look this nice.
Italian design FTW?

I've been playing this for a week now, did the 1st licence and got to a-spec 16 by doing the special events and don't get me wrong I like driving games but I'm yet to see the fun part of playing this. It's just so bloody difficult. Is that the point? Overcoming the difficulty of the physics instead of enjoying the racing?

Over a decade of GT, and I too am tired of re-earning these damn licenses.
This may be the one rare occasion that I would pay a license fee and then have to earn the cash for cars. I don't want to keep proving I can take a left turn.

@BrianZeluz Maybe you are just not the person this game is for. Go play need for speed or something which is just as fun just not as realistic. As for the fun part, it is fun in the "I'm controlling a beast" kind of way making it more satisfying then just fishtailing around corners and hitting NOS every chance you get.

@BrianZeluz Just think of them as challenges instead of license tests, they are fun. I managed to get gold on all of them, it's a good challenge.

@BrianZeluz I can't stand the license tests either but they do a good job of pounding good lines in my head. This honestly is the first GT I've bought since the very first one and as soon as I started the licensing on GT5 I remembered all of the punching my little brother in the arm and trying with all might to snap the PS1 controller in half everytime I got a few polygons on the grass.
I will say, though, I realize the grind and realism of GT isn't for everyone but I find it addicting.
