They are making it for Vita. Joystiq even had a short blip about it from E3 2011... which is when this was announced.

i would like to just state once more that Microsoft is absolutely, ridiculously stupid for not getting all the Oddworld HD remakes on the 360, especially given how they were exclusive to the Xbox last gen. mooorons!!!

@Liquidfingers Yes, I'm sure MS is losing oodles and oodles of sleep over losing exclusitivity over an Xbox launch game (also on PC) which had lukewarm reception upon it's arrival.

Glad to see that some gaming gems will not be lost thanks to HD makeovers.

It makes economical sense too. The game is practically already designed, and developers just have to transfer everything to a more powerful engine and add the graphics. Not straight forward but certainly economic.

I hope to see HD remakes of other great games. Deus EX 1, Thief... the list is loooong.

MS has strict size limitations for XBLA games, which is why Stranger's Wrath isn't on XBLA.

Plus, the original Munch's Oddysee is backwards compatible

Couldn't they just release it as a Games on Demand title? No size limitation there. Then it'd probably just be smacked down by the terms of service for the XBLA.

@tendoboy1984; Possibly, but there doesn't seem to be so. Record of Agarest War is around 9GB, and isn't considered a 'Full Title' along the lines of Games on Demand by the PlayStation Store's categorization methods.

Instead, to publish on PSN, you need to pay bandwidth fees.

@The Great Cornholio The original munches odyssey is backwards compatible but has virtually no sound, and plays like shit! I have tried many times, but they did a TERRIBLE job with it. It is unplayable.

I have both ps3 and xbox, but would rather this be an xbox title

I never got to play this or Strangers Wrath because at the time I wasn't really in a position to throw away £200 on an X-box with a laughable controller, stupid chunky size and no games worth talking about (until Halo came to town), but its awesome that I get to play these two games now and catch up on what I missed out on.

Saying that, Oddysee and Exodus were my favorite in the series and are amongst my favorite games of all time just because they are so different from 2D platformers you usually get. I had both games on EVERYTHING they could run on, PS2, PS1, PSP, PS3 and PC, why have i played the same game so many times? Dunno, guess its for the same reason I've played "Populous the beginning" endless times without ever getting bored of them, they are friggin awesome :D

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE HD REMAKES OF THE FIRST 2 (yes it had to be caps to emphasize how excited I am)

I didn't mean it as in "Halo launched later", I meant that that was my personal opinion at the time and quite the majority's as well "until" we tried out Halo and thought "Actually, it does have one awesome game". Before you play Halo, nothing seemed that amazing and can you blame me for thinking that? This was bungie, the creators of that borefest Oni :/ So on paper Halo didn't ring any bells, when I tried it out at the local game store I was like, "I need an xbox! At least for this game!". I never did get one because I ended up just borrowing my mates who bought one and never used it. But I bought my 360 and I couldn't be happier :)

Tbh I was more irritable with the fact that my favorites Dino Crisis and Abe had moved over, I felt as though the developers had betrayed me for graphics.

Until they track down the source code for the Abe games, there won't be an HD re-release of either.

what do you mean "until they track down the Abe source code"? Both Odyssey and Exodus are on PSOne Classics, so they clearly have access to something for both of those games. Is it the source code? i dont know, but they have something. And the founder of Oddworld Inhabitants is actually helping JAW in making the HD remakes, and if anyone would have source code for these games it would be him

L.A. Noire is also for download on XBL. in fact, Xbox Live's Games on Demand section puts PSN's equivalent to shame, just so long as you exclude all the PSX and PS2 releases.

I don't get the reason for updating these games. It's just a texture pack right? They're the same games underneath the fancy new coat of paint.

It's like taking Donkey Kong Country and upping the resolution of the sprites. Not worth it just for a few measly graphics upgrades.

This trend of "HD-ifying" everything is kind of pointless. HD is just a resolution, it has nothing to do with increasing the amount of polygons onscreen and building a bigger game world that's more detailed.

Back in my day, we played games just fine without HD resolutions.

I have an HDTV with a Wii and PS3 hooked up to it. I don't really see the point, it's just a better resolution, more pixels.

HD is not enough for a next-gen console. We need substantial upgrades like previous consoles had. It seems everyone is focusing on the picture resolution, and not the console's actual computing power.

Or maybe I'm just blowing hot air out my ass. Feel free to correct me.

Let's keep the spirit of Mega Man 9/10 and Dark Void Zero going by making Low Definition games. Gears of War LD, with hot Mode 7 graphics.

@tendoboy1984 All I'm reading is "Get off my lawn!"

That hot air directed at HD remasters is fine and good, I disagree, but it's a common and valid criticism. I wish they would do full on remakes, sort of like that one Live & Reloaded subtitled game I can't think of at the moment, but oh well. I'm buying for the most part.

As for your rant against HD resolutions, good lord mate. That's some of the most nitpicky nonsense I've ever read ... it's not 2006 anymore.

I'll just counter one of your points: 'It's just more pixels'. Hello infinitely more precise hit/collision detection!

I wish the HD generation brought more to the table, but at the same time I'm glad we have it, at least on two of the three anyways. I love my Wii as much as anyone, but you're mad if you think the gaming population would have been satisfied playing three standard definition consoles this generation. People were hungry for HD content to use on their HD TVs, and they finally got it ... and it's pretty damn glorious, and offers so much more than 'higher resolution' that you're just completely oblivious to.

@tendoboy1984 Agreed, but it has partial merits. Things such as re-releasing Ico & Shadow of the Colossus let people who may not have played titles which are now frustratingly hard to find if they missed them the first time. And in the case of Oddworld, if we ever want to see a continuation of the series, the devs definitely need more capital to make it happen. And if the HD upgrade is what it takes to entice new buyers, I guess that's good for them.

hopefully this one has less glitches. is it just me, or is Stranger's Wrath HD plagued by strange audio glitches where music sometimes overlaps or stops and loops at random intervals? also, i've encountered a couple times when lines of dialogue in FMV's are repeated, as well as the actual segment of that FMV as well....it's all a bit jarring, but when all is said and done it doesn't mean that Stranger's Wrath is any less of a great game, and given how it's an Oddworld game it's got that fantastic sense of humor and style. those natives really had me laughing for a bit. funny little bastards. :D
