Japanese hardware sales, January 2 - 8: A personal appeal edition

You know, we've been thinking about it, and now that fighting games are big business again, maybe it's time to revive some of the franchises that debuted near the end of the last era? Games that, for all intents and purposes, were never given the attention they deserved by the fighting game community or the gaming media. Games like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, or Rival Schools.

So, Capcom (we know you're reading this, don't even play): These franchises were the lifeblood of the genre needed last time around; they just came too late. Don't make the same mistake twice -- do yourself a favor, get ahead of the curve, and make us another game about a dog that summons a robot car and a vampire named Vanilla Ice.

Rival Schools and Darkstalkers really needs to make a comeback. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'd also love to see S-E to an update to Ehrgeiz, Bushido Blade, and the Tobal series.

Wow, 3DS is up almost as much as Vita sold. What's with the Wii boost?

@A Sandwich Week after New Year's is a sales boost. Which is worrying seeing how the Vita remained the same...

Vita still has a lack of major titles over there. Until that changes, sales will stay flat.

@Echo 78 Media Create removed DS Lite from their reports, either because of the futility of it or at Nintendo's request.

Once Vita hits Europe and USA, then we will find out if it's all doom. Until then, I'll hold my judgement.

Wtf japan? How can you be taken seriously if 3ds is outselling vita that much. If sony was smart they would have activision get mw3 vita ready once its stateside.

It really lacks any major japanese games so far. Even Gravity Rush and Persona are still unreleased.

Because they don't believe Sony to be the god of all gaming who should never have any competition ever? Or maybe, and this is just an idea that randomly meandered into my head, the 3DS has a better price point and a better line up, especially for Japan, currently?

IF the Vita gets a Monster Hunter title, beyond the port of Portable 3rd. 3DS already has Tri G and, due to where it was revealed, looks like it has Monster Hunter 4 wrapped up as well.

I freaking love playing Rival Schools on VGA on my Dreamcast. That game is too much fun even for a novice like me. While I'm at it: Street Fighter EX. haha It was big in the arcade back in college and I had a blast playing it. I'm probably the only person I know who still likes it, but whatever. It was fun. Anyways, good call Joystiq.

I'd love to see Project Justice.

I still play my dreamcast copies of JoJo's Bizzare Adventure and Project Justice. Capcom should handle more fighting games based on mangas.

Jojo's bizarre adventure was amazing, I thought I was the only one who played it!

Not a fan of Jojo's, but Rival Schools is one of my favorite fighting game sagas ever. Wish Capcom would revive it, and not cut the awesome modes from the japanese versions :O

I dont get the point of the 3ds. 3d is a fad and a novelty and those games can be played on smart phones. It as if someone said "i want to make a smartphone game but I want to sell it for much more than 99¢

If there is anything I want to ask Capcom right now it's, "Why is there no new successor to Power Stone?" They don't have to use the Power Stone license, just make a game that plays like Power Stone.

monster hunter really isnt the only reason why the 3ds is on the top..lmaooooo mario kart is whats making 3ds successful... but monster hunter is helping.... and mario 3d land..

@Tristan77 wow really three times over I could understand if it was an accidental triple post, but wow way to be mature. Everyone knows the long run will show how it does. That's for all consoles. P.S. try supporting them all and you might not have such an angry day.

I would really like to see Capcom work with Type-Moon again a Fate/Unlimited Codes sequel. I loved the first one even though it only made it out here on PSP, I would really love to see a second one get a console release with some of the characters from the other story arcs!

the only thing worse than fan boys is people who assume others are fanboys. I hate sony. My ps3 collects dust next to my 360. I guess its a true sign of gamings demise though when the most popular handhelds best games are 10+ year old ports that could easily be emulated on tablets and smartphones and 95% of the 3ds library should be sold at the same pricepoint as apps.

Seriously 3DS has Mario Land, Mario Kart, (if you're in Japan) Monster Hunter, Zelda remake, Starfox remake, Street Fighter 4 if you didn't play it on some other platform... that's it right? I might have forgotten one or two, and there are Japanese games I don't really know about, but otherwise... whatever else might as well not exist.

Current problem with Vita sales is largely because (at least for Japan's tastes) it pretty much only has 'whatever else' at the moment....

DARKSTALKERS needs to return as a completely hand drawn game with higher resolution sprites than Blazblue and an all new story line. Capcom if you do this i will buy whatever B.S. DLC you want to throw at us after release.

We need a Killer Instinct revival but that's probably impossible. ...

We need a new JoJo's, but it needs to be a crossover with reps from all parts, part 3 may be the most popular but that's no reason to ignore the rest of the series.
