Wait - the top game only did 1.6 million in sales? Only two games broke 1 million this year? That earthquake took a strip out of the gaming community - that's for sure. These numbers are downright anemic compared to past years.
Of course - 1.6 million is nothing to slouch at - but we forget the credit -crushing 3.8 million copies of Monster Hunter 3 Freedom sold last year, as well as 2 million+ copies *each* for Pokemon Black and White. In fact - I think the top ten broke 1 million last year.
In 2009, DragonQuest IX sold 4 million+ - and I think the top 4 or so were all 2 million+ sellers (New SMB, Tomodachi, HeatGold/SoulSIlver etc.)

@Kagiroi I don't think it's really the earthquake - look at the games you listed from previous years, there's nothing that big was even released this year. (Well, I guess Mario Land is sort of equivalent to New SMB, but it's pretty early in the system's life.)

@Roto13
Fastest selling as in, it sold all the units it was going to in one single week? :)
Seriously, I just looked up and I guess it sold something like 250k overall? Compared to random other games that's pretty good - and depending on what the number actually was, maybe not far off the bottom of this chart - but it is disappointing that Japan doesn't like Zelda enough to compare with big hit games like those near the top of the list. Especially when it's the most innovative Zelda game since the N64 and probably the single best use of the Wii remote control.
