It's a shame they chose to model it after the 360 controller. I've always found the playstation controllers more comfortable.

It depends on the size of your hands and weight preference. I always find the PS3 controller too small and too light for me. They probably figured that more people prefer the shape of the 360 controller. At least they give you the choice of PS3 d-pad and thumbsticks. Or you can mix and match, which is a great idea.

@Hyperion45 As much as I disagree, based on "The other buttons can't be customized; they come to match whichever system you're using." I think you'll be able to have either

He's not referring to the sticks/buttons he's referring to the shape of the pad itself.

Also I'm disappointed the shoulder buttons won't be interchangeable as I'd love to have the R1/L1 off PS3 and the RT/LT off the 360 pad.

i couldnt agree more - i got mw3 for ps3 as a gift , and i can say that my performance with the ps3 controller has dropped considerably, i even loaded up mw2 on xbox and my k/d was where it was always at and much better on ps3. so my next mw type game will be on xbox.

I like the feel of the 360 controller; the curves match my hand perfectly, but the sticks are so stiff (especially when they're new) and shorty/stubby compared to the taller sticks on the PS controller which gives me more accuracy/precision. Also, sometimes I like to hold the controller with my index and middle fingers on the triggers and L1/R1 buttons and it's just not comfortable on the 360.

I still remember E3 2005, that 360 controller just melted in my hands and I knew that this was the controller for me. I liked the ps2 controller, but what ps3 did to it's triggers is pretty wrong. Hopefully the next iteration of consoles will perfect each of their controller shortcomings.

Congrats on assuming stupid things. I read the article. I'm referring to the shape of the controller itself, not analog stick, button, trigger, or d-pad configuration.

Doesn't Nintendo hold a patent on the second D-Pad design? I'm sure I've read that on here before.

@Jameseh It may be a variation like the silver special edition 360 controllers. That one has the changeable d-pad, going from the regular 360 style to the the cross-style with a twist of the d-pad.

@Vic I agree. After many years and even more broken Mad Catz controllers, I refuse to give them another dime. The last controller of their I bought was the Rock Band Bass Guitar, and after two weeks of occasional use, one of the two strum bars stopped working.

@DeadpooI I agree with you there. I think it's how glossy the plastic looks. Any controller I've ever seen with that type of glossy plastic has always felt really cheap and brittle. Plus, the controls have always been really unresponsive. I'll pass.

This actually sounds like something I could see myself buying. I own 1st-party PS3 controllers with "dead zones" in the analog sticks and would LOVE the ability to either A) have analogs that don't do that, or B) replace them with fresh sticks when/if they begin to fail.

I also really like all of the additional options, like the ability to customize the weight of your controller, to choose between gloss and matte finishes (matte for me, please), to be able to get around being locked out of shoulder button customization, and of course, being able to customize your analog/D-pad setup.

Ooh, and having it be a mandatory USB connection? Hopefully this means it can serve double-duty as a PC controller.

Frankly, I haven't used an XBOX controller since the Grizzly model that shipped with the original XBOX, so I'm really looking forward to test out that control scheme on my PS3 with a more comfortable controller than the Grizzly.

The only thing that turns me off is the price point. I can't justify spending $100 on a controller, no matter how awesome it is. Maybe if I get gifted a bunch of Amazon cards, or something...

@AxelSteelBMX The 360 controllers really fit in your hands well. I can't play shooters worth a damn on the PS3 because the triggers are awful (amazing for a racing game, not good for simulating real trigger pull) because of the awkwardly small controller. Sadly the 360 controllers are not launch-Xbox comfortable but I think you'll enjoy them over the PS3's.

@(Unverified) Having less "travel" in the shoulder buttons would certainly be nice, even compared to the (much better) Dualshock 3 redesign over the original Sixaxis model, which was just mushy to hell and back.

Honestly, I don't mind the Dualshock 3 shape. It's familiar and comfortable after years of playing the hell out of the PS1 and PS2; I like it just fine. As Paranoimia mentioned below, if another version was released with the Dualshock 3 shape, I'd probably pick up that one based on familiarity, but as long as a controller is comfortable in my hands I don't mind too much what it looks like.

I'm mostly just psyched about the ability to have replaceable analog sticks that don't render the controller useless when they start to fail, as well as the ability to try the "other side's" control scheme out to see if I like having an analog where I'm used to having a D-Pad. Then again, I liked both the Dreamcast and the Gamecube's controllers, so I guess I just answered my own question. Regardless, I want this thing.

I find it interesting that those gamers don't like wireless because of lag, but they prefer triggers over buttons for the main shooting buttons. The buttons are much much quicker than pulling the triggers

I love my Onza, the microswitch buttons and multifunction buttons mean I can't stand switching to any other controller.

But I'm on my third one. It's a great controller, but Razer's quality control is absolutely terrible. This controller looks like it was not only built to last, but if any specific part does break, you can replace the part without buying a new controller. That's pretty awesome.

With all that customisation, they should have made another version with the DualShock3 body shape. Only then can everyone truly have their preferred controller configuration.

The whole modular buttons idea is really cool, except that you can't switch out the right side. Ideally, for shooters, I'd have both analog sticks in the top position. The right one where the face buttons are, and put the face buttons where the right stick is.

I'm sticking to my onza for my 360, but I can't stand the shape of the dualshock, and all the third party controllers so far are garbage. I might pick up this for my PS3 so I can have a quality controller that's also comfortable for me.
