Thief 4 remains (appropriately) shrouded in mystery, but Linkedin profiles spotted by NeoGAF users suggest the game will be running on Unreal Engine 3, and will feature an online multiplayer component.
Several of the profiles state that Thief 4 runs on Unreal Engine 3, which isn't too surprising given Square Enix's recent UE3 licensing deal. Among the profiles is an online programmer who is "involved in many aspects, such as networking, gameplay, debugging online and offline tools on Thief 4." The programmer in question specializes in game networking (matchmaking, etc.), so online play may be a consideration.
We haven't heard an official peep out of Thief 4 since November of 2009, so who knows what form the game has taken by now?

Thief 4 is easily my most anticipated game. The first two were brilliant and the third one was good, just not quite as great.
The stealth in all thee Thief games still has not been done better in ANY "stealth" game since (some close contenders, the recent Deus Ex and the recent Splinter Cell did stealth well - but not quite as good)
The protagonist in the Thief games was just cool, and so well voiced as well. The voice acting as a whole was top notch as well - the banter between guards is still some of the best (and funniest) we've heard in gaming.
I have super high hopes for this game and this series.

Its going to be over hyped due to todays gamers being overly expectant of any kind of remake/reboot/sequel... Its going to come out 3 years from now to lukewarm reception and jeering from said gamers about how they ruined an old series yada yada yada...
thats right, i can see the future... or at least use the past 5 years as reference.

That's some weird selective memory of the past 5 years. I remember Fallout, Starcraft, and Deus Ex all having tremendous success as reboots/remakes/sequels.
In other words, what are you talking about?

I loved Thief 3...
I see no reason to have the MP on it, but as long as it doesn't screw over with the single player, I can live with it and maybe it's even good.
Hopefully it won't need to be dumbed down due to hardware limitations on consoles, or have it be PC only. Or I'll have my hopes up that it's being developed for the next consoles...

Yet another game that doesn't need multiplayer but developers feel the need to shoe-horn in just so they can include an online pass.

I loved the first two, but I also loved the third one. That said, most of what was weak about Thief 3, I attributed to their use of the Unreal Engine (shadow limitations were more limiting in a game where shadows really matter, unimpressive audio) and also to its being a dual console/PC release (smallish areas and "zones" within levels).
"The City" was an underwhelming design choice, but the actual missions themselves were very good, I thought. The story was also pretty strong--not quite as good as Thief 1, but better than Thief 2. It also gets brownie points simply for possessing the Shalebridge Cradle mission. Even the lead up cinematics with their crappy graphics had me scared.
