Starhawk lifts off on May 8, PS Plus beta starts today

Starhawk will engage in all-out war on May 8, the PlayStation Blog announced today. It also reiterated that the game's "public beta" begins today for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Those who purchased Uncharted 3 can fly into the beta January 31 in the US and February 1 in Europe. Normal ol' PSN accounts can try it out February 21, with Europe receiving access the following day. There are also opportunities to obtain beta codes from GameStop and IGN on February 7 and 14, respectively.

Sony also reminds: "a Beta is a real world 'in the wild' test of the core game systems and gameplay. It is NOT a demo. Most of the final game features are not included."

a PUBLIC beta is always a demo. If you don't want it perceived as a demo than have a private beta.

That's not really true, you just perceive it that way. The reason for a public beta is to test if the game servers can support a high volume of users. You can't verify that well with a private beta

No. It's not a demo. It's a beta. Because there are still bugs, they are still testing their servers and various components of the multiplayer. People like you will still use the public beta as a demo, and then if someone like you decides that they won't play the game because of bugs present in the beta then that's their loss.

People with an iota of common sense know the difference between a demo and a beta.

as you said, you may PERCEIVE it as such.. and that is all it is, a perception.. or, more accurately, a mis-perception.

I'll just assume you are the same chappy that would do all kinds of complaining when the release of the game was not up to handling the player load due to inadequate testing as a result of keeping a beta closed.

@eat it I hate to admit it, but you've got a point. Many gamers are aware that a beta is actually a beta, but many are also ignorant and think that anything they can download is a demo. :\

you can call it a beta, an alpha a "this-is-not-a-demo"... whatever your heart desires. Nothing will change the fact that this will be the first time thousands of potential customers will be demoing they're game. Thus making this a demo.

This is only a Beta for people who have played it before

A lot of devs lately have been using their betas as demos and nothing more.

Looking forward to the beta. I think Starhawk will make a great Summer game.

I'm getting in early pray then because I activated my free 30 days of plus trial so I now have a unused beta code from uncharted 3.. Anyone????!?

hope its a early ps3 update again today been looking forward to playing the public beta and can today cause I have PS +

Stuff like the bf3 "beta" that never changed and wasn't updated once makes people think beta tests are demos. They're not. Uncharted 3 and now this both get frequent updates and are definitely not demos.
